------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's time to cast your vote for the Capri 25 specialty trophies: the
Smoozability Award, Rookie Boat of the Year and the Capri 25 Boat of the
Year. Voting for the Smoozability Award is open to everyone who is a paid
member of the club and who regularly sails on a Capri 25. Voting for Rookie
Boat of the Year and Capri 25 Boat of the Year is by boat only -- one vote
for each boat.
Unfortunately, the Web-based ballot is down right now (not sure why). To
vote, please send an email to me (engdenise at hotmail.com) by October 29 (the
Frostbite race) with the following info:

Choice for Boat of the Year:
See below for a list of nominees and details on each award.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Smoozability Award: This is awarded to the crew member that demonstrates the
greatest passion for the Capri Fleet, smoozability, fun to sail/party with,
and volunteerism to the fleet. Nomination and voting is open to any
paid member of WYC who owns a Capri 25 or regularly crews on a Capri 25.
Each owner or crew member is allowed one nomination and one vote. Those who
lease or own a share in a boat are not eligible to be nominated. Previous
winners are not eligible. Children of boat owners are eligible. Award
winners must be a paid crew member in the WYC log unless the Fleet Captain
makes an exception due to extenuating circumstances.
Nominees for Smoozability:
Belinda "Barnie" Barnes (Quick Draw): Barnie has been sailing on Quick Draw
for many years. She is always up for a party, helps out a lot during
regattas and was the best pirate on the dock during the dock party
.she has
also been out here sailing for a long time and deserves the recognition.
Dan McNamara (lots of boats): Dan is long-time crew member at the club and
has managed to smooze his way into rides on a lot of different boats in the
fleet, up in Bayfield and in other regattas. Dan's willing to do just about
anything on a boat (sailing-wise that is) and is always willing to help out
and teach others.
Harv Kalweit (Tsunami): Harv did some beautiful woodworking for us last
year, building the bases for a number of trophies including the new Most
Valuable Crew and Man Overboard trophy (which he made with a broken winch
handle). He has been sailing in the fleet for many years, and always takes
the time to stop and congratulate or commiserate about the race. He's always
willing to share tips and ideas with other crew members.
Kim Joriman (Persistence): Kim is relatively new to the Capri fleet, though
she's spent many years racing on the St. Croix and up in Lowisa. She's
well-known for her rum and cokes (well actually, for rum and anything) and
often serves as guest bartender on Persistence and Persistence's little
dock-side bar. Kim is an experienced sailor and is happy to take the helm
or do whatever else is needed to win a race.
-----------------------------------
Rookie Boat of the Year: Awarded to the "Rookie" boat that best displays
performance, participation and team enthusiasm. Rookie boats are eligible
for two full seasons after entering the fleet. The first season does not
begin if the boat enters the fleet after July 15th.
¼ of scoring is based on participation numbers provided by WYC.
¼ of scoring is based on performance in race series, as determined by the
Fleet Captain.
½ of scoring is for team spirit, as voted on by the "non-rookie" boats.
Boats winning in their first year, will not be eligible the following year.
A winning boat is not eligible for the Capri Boat of the Year award.
Nominees for Rookie Boat of the Year:
- Capricious (joined late 2003)
- Sudawn (joined 2004)
- Lickety Split (joined late 2004)
--------------------------------------
Boat of the Year: Awarded to the skipper and crew that best exemplifies the
spirit of the Capri 25 fleet through: team spirit, always trying to improve,
Capri fleet camraderie and enthusiasm, believing that having fun is more
important than results and inviting new crew to WYC. Voting is by popular
vote of the Capri Fleet. One boat, one vote. Boats may not vote for
themselves, the Fleet Captain is not eligible for this award. Ties are
broken by voting for one of the tied boats by those who voted for other
boats. Winners are not eligible for the next two years. Previous winners
were Looscrew (2003) and Code Blue (2004).
