Well, you could follow my methodology...  Crew for a few years, pick-up 
a boat for $9K and invest another $16K into it, meanwhile trailing the 
fleet in each race occasionally colliding with other boats as you 
sharpen your driving skills.  This is a very expensive approach and 
doesn't make you any friends.

Seriously, show up at the club - 11:00am Sundays and/or 4:00pm Thursdays 
and hang out at the crew table.  After some experience, find a skipper 
that will let you drive and will teach you.  Check with the sponsors on 
the WYC web site - they have training courses.  Bring beer - the 
skippers appreciate that.
