This informational email is going to all Capri 25, S2, and Sonar sailors to
update you on the new and exciting One Design regatta being held in just two
months. The Star of the North regatta is September 26-28 and is open to
Capri 25s S2s and Sonars from all over the world that want to come to
beautiful Lake Minnetonka.

The program will look something like this. Up to four buoy races on Friday
followed by refreshments and a barbeque dinner. Saturday will start with a
medium distance race to the corners of main lake without entering the weed
bed to the south of Big Island. This will be followed by 1 or 2 buoy races
in the afternoon, a rum party, a delicious dinner by Connie at the club
house. Then at 7:00 Sweet African Country Music, the hit of every Capri
regatta, will entertain, so bring your dancing shoes. Sunday will bring 1 or
2 more buoy races and a closing party and awards at the club. Last years
Capri regatta cost $120 to register and included all the food and drink all
weekend long for 5 crew. This alone is worth well over $120. I believe the
price can be held the same this year if you all can arrange sponsors and
support the raffle.

To make this all happen will takes lots of team work from eager
participants. As regatta chair for the Capri fleet, I suggest meeting with
anyone willing to volunteer to help next Sunday 8/3 after the race. Here is
what is needed:

Sponsors & Raffle: This is a VERY important group. To help pay for the
regatta we need help from those we support all year long. Raffle items need
to be solicited and collected. If you can help with this, please step
forward.

Shirts: Need a couple people to design, purchase, and sell the proverbial
regatta shirt.

Food Committee: Need people on shore to make sure we all get feed when the
racing is over. Works best if there are a couple people who won’t be sailing
and like to shop and do food prep. Connie is doing Saturday night but even
she needs help. Don't forget the dishes after the meal is served.

Entertainment Committee: Need people to get sponsors for the beer and rum
and make sure all the mixers etc. make it to the parties.

Race Committee: Need 1 member from the S2 fleet to add input to the racing.
The NORs need to get published real soon and the race instructions for the
regatta put together. Bert Foster will work with this group from the Sonars
and Nils Brennom from the Capris to get it right. This group also needs
help with the race committee on the course. It is late in the season and the
youth will be in school and Blake will be out of town. We will need people
to man the race committee boats.

Registration: Need 1 member from each fleet to get the boats registered and
the paperwork turned in.

The trophies need to be ordered in the next couple weeks. Bring trophy ideas
to the meeting next Sunday for consideration. Each fleet could have there
own trophies, or we could save money by ordering the same trophies for all
three fleets.

Come on out next Sunday after the race and volunteer to make this a great
event.
