Hi Fleet Captains,

The race committee has been working on ideas to improve participation on
Sundays. The WIC Board of Directors approved the plan at the last board
meeting. 

The idea that has come up most frequently is to have one Sunday a month for
the months of June July and August  a one day regatta for one of the one
design fleets in Wayzata Bay, where they would race alone as a fleet.
Thought is to have a centerline start much like rumble in the bay and the
successful Wednesday night program of the Shorewood yacht club where they
race in Gideon's Bay.  On that Sunday that particular one design fleet would
not hold a championship race on the main Lake. The first warning would be at
noon in order to get the Bay race fleet out onto the Bay and racing to get
in as many races as possible.  The races in the Bay would be as many as
could be started in a three-hour timeslot from the first warning. With the
last warning to be no later than when the main Lake fleet is returning from
the main Lake.  Each of these one day regattas standalone rather than sale
them as a series. The purpose of this is to hope that people who don't
normally sail on Sunday would want to sail in these Sunday events in the Bay
while not being required to sail all three to win a series. Each of these
one day regattas would be on your trophy picture and you would receive
glassware. At this time we do not have traveling keeper trophies because
it's a new series and we want to see how the attendance goes.

This plan would reduce the number of races that you have to race in the WYC
championship series, and therefore, you would have one Sunday a month where
you could choose to not race and not impact your championship standings.
The hope we have is that those that do not choose to the race Sunday
afternoon would be delighted to race on three Sundays a summer where they
would get in multiple races.

We are planning to have the J 22, J 24, Sonar, and Capri 25 be the fleets
that race in the Bay, as the Ensigns don't race on Sundays and the S2 7.9's
have their main participation on Thursdays. However, if one of those fleets
would guarantee to have strong Sunday participation at these one day
regattas we can work that out.

Please pass this along to your fleet so that your members can be thinking
about their plan for the 2013 racing season. Comments are always welcome.

Over the next several months we will be working on the master race schedule
and have that to you as soon as it's available.
