[Capri25] Capri 25 2013 Annual Meeting and Party

Hey John,

Blame me, blame me for the schedule change, but that should not take more
than 10 minutes. The Capri 25 special rules discussion is entirely up the
fleet and I don't care. The RRS changes for 2013 are very minor and Steve
Truax could give a short discussion of them.

Regards,

Hi guys,

I am having that feeling, the kind of feeling where the wind is building and
you don't know what sail to hoist.

ISSUE: between Bull's comments (well written, BTW) and Bert's response, it
was circa 10 paragraphs and it took 3 minutes to read. And that's just two
guys ... if we have upwards of 30 Capri sailors at the meeting, we could
easily chew up 2 hours on this issue alone.

As fleet captain, I have to draw some boundaries. We can allocate 1 hour to
this issue. That is to say, 30 minutes on schedule changes and 30 minutes
on rules - more or less. After that time, we will need to vote, make
decisions or reconvene after further study.

Let's talk about structure. My concern is that this could spiral into hours
and hours - evolving into less than productive event.

John

Hi all,

The feedback I got from you below is what I received from a number of people
during my numerous conversations about this subject. However, I want to
remind you that I also received numerous responses of people that said, "I
don't race on Sunday because I want the want to spend time with the family,
however, I would be delighted to race the rumbles in the Bay three times
during the summer. I would even put together my best crew and try to win
some of those one day regattas." I also received responses from a number of
people who said, "I don't race on Sunday because it's family day, but I
would race those three one day regattas, probably with my children."

So we have had various responses, and we don't know for sure what is going
to be popular. However, there been enough responses of people who want the
rumble in the Bay that were going to run it. Jared has been running similar
rumbles in the Bay for the laser races and the team races by himself in the
Whaler with flags on sticks Shorewood also runs it with just one person on
the committee boat. So the expense will be very modest. One of the problems
that the WIC faces, which is different from all the yacht clubs on the coast
that I have visited is that the WYC runs many more races during the summer
the nose coast scratch that than the yacht clubs on the coast, and
therefore, there is an interest by people in these much larger boats to have
unusual races for families, including picking up the greased watermelon,
special kind of scoring in her for having children on board, etc.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the Capri 25 party and discussing this
whole schedule situation.

Regards,

Bert

Bert,

I have discussed the new schedule with the crew of Magic and wanted to
provide you with feedback from our boat. It was the unanimous opinion of our
crew that we would be in favor of the revised schedule, not because we are
interested in doing Rumbles on the Bay, but because we are in favor of
having at least 1 weekend a month where we can schedule other activities
without having to miss a Champ Series race. We almost certainly would not
participate in the Rumbles as the crew would prefer to have that weekend to
cruise in Bayfield or on Lake Michigan or catch up on work around the house.
I would prefer the club save the expense of the extra race committee to run
the Rumbles and instead schedule one weekend a month for a fun event on the
main lake or at the club that did not count in any series, but where those
who wanted to be on the water could do so. Maybe a PREF race series where
everyone raced everyone with a reverse handicap start to take the pressure
off the start. Maybe a race where you improved your score by 1 point for
every sailor under 21 on the boat, 2 points if they helm. If you schedule
the "fun" weekends without Champ races on Memorial Day, Race Week and Labor
Day, this may also help those in Bayfield get crew.

I wanted to provide you with our input to help in your decision making. We
all appreciate everything you and the race committee do to make WYC a very
successful and fun place to race. Looking forward to your party in a couple
weeks. Thanks for the invite.

Hi all,

You're going to want to have a discussion about the new Sunday race schedule
were three times during the summer you will be able to have Sunday off or
sale multiple races in Wayzata Bay similar to the rumble in the Bay program
that you been having for several years.

Carmella and I will try to make the meeting so that we can get feedback
about your thoughts on the new schedule. Also, I'm hoping to have the
schedule completed by then, so that you can take a look at it.

You might also take a look at the official fleet special rules that are on
the yacht club website to be sure that that is what you want and/or make
changes if you want to.

Regards,

Bert

Now hear this .

The Capri 25 2013 Annual Meeting and Party will be held on Saturday, January
26th 2013. The exact time, along with an agenda and specifics, will follow
after the new-year.

The fleet is also pleased to announce a private venue for this year's event.
Darin Busch and Sandy Dostal have graciously offered to host the gathering
at their Excelsior home. There address is in the log book. As we know,
having a fleet member volunteer their home is special and always a lot more
fun. We appreciate Darin's and Sandy's generosity.

Please email any new business topics to me for the fleet's consideration at
the meeting Also, put your thinking caps on regarding new nominees for
fleet offices; fleet captain, treasurer, web-site master and social
committee

To all the Capri sailors, have a great holiday season.

John Speltz
