Subject: Last call for Bob Slocum Regatta tomorrow.... Bring your boat (or yourself) if you can

Hello WYC fleets,

This is my last note before the Bob Slocum Memorial Family Fun Regatta and Picnic tomorrow. We've changed the schedule a bit, and will now do the picnic after the Big Island race, then go out for boat rides. You can come as early as 11:30 for the fun and games, or as late as 12:30 if you just want to grab a bite and provide a boat ride for kids and families.

I could go on and on about why this is a great event and why it makes sense to promote sailing to young people (how else can kids have so much fun learning about science?) But instead, I'm just going to share a note that Tom Elsen wrote to the S2 mailing list that captures it better than I could:

Hey Everybody -

Please try (again, despite the setbacks due to weather) to show up on Saturday and help promote what we all love -- sailing. I'll be there.

Think of all the great times you've had on this lake, on your boat. Help introduce somebody else to that experience.

Send Heather Fraser (heatherf at pcspeed.com<mailto:heatherf at pcspeed.com>) an email if you can make it. Or just register via the link below:

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to return to the city park marina where I learned to sail as a kid (in Louisville KY). It was just an accident of timing, as we were in town celebrating my parents' 60th wedding anniversary. But there, last Saturday, were tents and chairs and displays and volunteers......and about 100 people waiting in line with their kids to go out on a sailboat!

That's how it starts. At least for some it does. For me it did.

Maybe you can make that connection for somebody else.

Thanks.

Thanks, Tom.

And thanks to everyone who has encouraged us. Looking forward to seeing many of you, and enjoying a great day tomorrow!
