Shiloh,

Windward sheeting cars need occasional lubrication for the mechanism to function. Try McLube.

I don’t like them and they don’t work well in light air, when there’s not enough load on the mainsheet to force the cam cleats to open/close.
I have a pair of “shaped pieces of aluminum<https://pull01-apsltd.netdna-ssl.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/j/2/j22_m24_traveler_cam_bracket__1__obm002.jpg>” you can have, but many boats install “Twin Travelers cleats” on each side (total of 4, Harken pn 150) with a block between.
This allows you to cleat & un-cleat from either windward or leeward, like the Brady blocks but with less bruising of the crew.

See circular inset photo on http://www.harken.com/uploadedImages/Tech_Corner/Deck_Layouts/One_Design/j22-top-lg.gif?n=3090
or take a look at almost any J/22.

Subject: [Capri25] Capri 25 Windward Mainsheet Traveler Cleats

Folks,

I've got a Harken Windward Mainsheet Traveler installed, and have noticed some inconsistency with it. Could be maintenance, and I plan on taking care of this in the upcoming off season. However, I did come across the note below on the Capri 25 Fleet page. Wondering if this might be teasing at some of the performance on the traveler. Is anyone using Brady Blocks as described below, and if so, can I peak at how your setup to get an idea on what this looks like?

Best,

Shiloh

Main Traveler Cleats
Harkin's popular windward sheeting traveler does not work well on a Capri 25 (regardless of what John Speltz tells you) because Capri 25 traveler bars are relatively low. If you want use what's known as Brady Blocks, which are L shaped pieces of aluminum that have two cleats on each unit. These mount where the regular cleats are with one cleat in the normal position, while the other is mounted to allow you to lock the leeward traveler cleat from the rail. J22's often use these.
