WYC Sailors:

This summer our club will be hosting the J2/2 North American Championships.
J/22 sailors from around the country will be coming to our club to compete
June 20 - 23, 2019. We are looking for people to open their house up to
sailor teams. Now, I know opening your house up to complete strangers can be
a little unnerving, but someone opened up their house to my team at the J22
Worlds. And, honestly, it was one of the best parts of the entire trip for
us and them. Please let me know if you would like to become a WYC super hero
and host a team for this event or if you are a solid maybe depending on
summer plans. I guarantee that you will enjoy the experience. Below are some
benefits and common concerns about hosting a team.

* Benefits of hosting a team.

o You get to meet other cool sailors from around the country.

o You can share your local knowledge of the lake.

o People you host are super appreciative and it is fun to bring joy to the
world.

o For a lot of people, cost is a major factor in choosing to come to a
regatta. The BIGGEST expense is lodging. If you can provide that for them
then that really helps.

o The more you give in this world the more you get.

o You will probably make three new friends.

* Concerns of hosting a team.

o My place is a dump.

* Nobody cares. If they cared they would stay in a hotel.

o I am concerned that someone will steal something.

* Unlikely that someone is going to haul their boat half way across the
country to get into your house to steal something. If that was their plan
there would be easier ways to do this.

o I live too far from the club.

* Let them make that decision.

o   I don't have an extra bedroom.

* We can fully disclose this and they can bring sleeping bags if they want
to stay with you. The people staying with me will be in my home office on
the floor.

o   I don't want to entertain them.

* You will not have to. They will be busy doing their thing and you can do
your thing.

o I am not really a people person.

* You probably are and just don't know it yet.

*	I have a dog/cat/snake/fish.

*	We will disclose that to make sure that they don't have allergies.

*	I am not a J/22 sailor.

*	All WYC boats use the wind to move forward. We are all part of this
same crazy sport. What a great way to get to know another fleet.

*	My spouse will think I am crazy if I agree to this.

*	Your spouse already thinks you are a little off your rocker. What a
good way to get your spouse more involved in the sailing community.

*	I can't make pancakes.

*	First of all, start buying the just add water kind. Second, you are
getting way off track. Third, you don't need to feed these people. Just give
them a warm place to sleep. If you want to make them breakfast one morning,
I am sure that they would appreciate it.

So, if you like making new friends from around the country, then please
email briangarydoyle at gmail.com <mailto:briangarydoyle at gmail.com> . Let me
know that you are a solid maybe if it works into your summer schedule and
your roommate/spouse agrees.
