Good day everyone.

It appears my original message from last Thursday did not get through.

As many of you will have seen, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is slowly allowing a return to competitive sport, albeit with restrictions. The WYC board passed a motion this morning to implement a plan for modified competition starting next Monday 7/06/2020.

All relevant information is available at WYC.org/restartracing The original schedule that included the Sunset Series, and Champ Series has been abandoned. It has been replaced with a modified schedule shown in a Addendum C of the NOR/SI.

Before talking about racing, we need to address some modifications to club operations and expectations for members.

Member Expectations: We can all agree this is not a normal year. Every aspect of our lives have changed. WYC is no exception. In order to return to any form of competition it is important to align expectations. Members are expected to follow the expectations set-out in the preparedness plan, and restated at WYC.org/restartracing .

Face Coverings: The MDH recommends the use of face coverings. The face covering is to protect other people from you, not protect you from other people. Accordingly, the BOD expect all persons on the club property to;
Have a Face Covering. You must have a face covering with you at all times. You will be asked to leave WYC Property until you and any of your guests have a face covering.
Wear a Face Covering. You must wear a face covering when encountering others on WYC property, including the docks, clubhouse grounds, and parking lots.
If someone requests you to put your face covering on, to remain physically distanced, or both, please do so and be respectful. Please remind others of the physical distancing requirements.

Waiver and Contact Tracing Requirements:
Central to the preparedness plan mandated by the MHD is the requirement to be able to trace contacts in the event of a confirmed case linked to WYC. Accordingly, the BOD has implemented the following.
Waiver – Every sailor MUST sign a waiver before the race. The waiver is available at WYC.org/restartracing This need only be done one time.
Crew Roster – each boat owner MUST submit a roster of the crew they intend to sail with this season. Think of it as your “extended household.” These are people you know well, and you trust to follow the CDC recommendations. The crew roster MUST be submitted before the first race. You may add to your roster at any time. Failure to declare a crew member in your roster may result in your boat not being scored. Submit your crew roster at WYC.org/restartracing
Daily Check-in – Every sailor MUST check in EVERY time they attend WYC to race. We intend to deploy QR code signs at each dock. Simply point your smart phone camera at the QR code. Your smartphone will take you to a webpage. Enter your Name, Phone number, and sail number of the boat you will be sailing on. This information will ONLY be used in the event of an outbreak. The daily crew check-in is also available here

Gatherings are WYC are still not allowed:
In order to prevent gatherings of greater than 25-people; the patio, deck, grills, pop machine, and club building, are still not available for use, except the bathrooms.
Additionally, when arriving at WYC, please proceed directly to your boat. Please do not congregate at the club.
For weekday race nights, please do not arrive earlier than 1630 (4.30 pm). This will prevent gathering at the club, and still allow plenty of time to rig your boats. (Wayzata Sailing will be using much of the parking lot and island for their socially distant activities which WYC supports).
We realize this may be an inconvenience; however, our first priority is a safe and compliant return to modified competition.

Modified Competition:
We’re pleased to announce a return to the modified competition, starting next Monday. There are lots of details, all of which are published in Addendum C of the NOR/SI available at WYC.org/restartracing and summarized below:

Double Handed Fleet:
We recognize some members will want to sail with only one other person. In order to promote social distancing a new double handed fleet designation has been designated. Boats of any type may elect to sail within the double-handed fleet. Boats will use their designated PHRF rating, and be scored using the WYC Time-on-Time calculation. Boats intending to participate in this division shall fly a designated streamer (supplied by WYC) from their backstay.

Crew size limits:
In compliance with the MDH guidelines, WYC has established a maximum crew size based on boat length. For boats 24-feet and under crew size is limited to three. For boats over 24-feet crew size is limited to four. See Addendum-C for complete details.

Race Days:
Weeknights: this is the biggest change for this season. In order to minimize gathering at WYC and to stagger starts effectively, we will split weeknight racing between MONDAY and THURSDAY. Fleets are already split between Course 1 (S2 7.9, J24, J22, Sonar) and Course 2 (J70, Capri 25, Ensign, PHRF1, PHRF2, and MORC).
On first week (Week A), Course 1 will sail MONDAY, and Course 2 will sail on THURSDAY.
On the next week (Week B), Course 2 will sail on MONDAY, and Course 1 will sail on THURSDAY
Thereafter A and B will alternate.
Saturdays: Big Island, using the conventional start order as shown in Addendum-C.
Sundays: will be on the main lake, using a modified starting order where pairs of fleets are started with a 15-minute interval. The purpose of the interval is to minimize gathering at the club. The start times are shown in Addendum-C

Scoring: The Champ Series and Sunset Series have been abandoned. There will be a July and August Series for weeknight, Saturday Big Island and Sunday series. There will also be an overall series by combining the scores from the July and August series. Stay tuned for details about September and other regattas.

Just like the winds on our beloved Minnetonka, everything is subject to change.

In the meantime, let’s celebrate the opportunity to return to a heavily modified version of the activity we all love.

WYC Board of Directors.
