Subject: [J22-Fleet 1]MYC Wednesday Race and Grill
Message-ID: <112.2408b15f.2c0ea510@aol.com>
With 20+ knot winds last Wednesday night, the turn out for all MYC fleets was
a bit sparse however, we did serve over 70 people at the post race grill,
emptied several gallons of Margaritas, listened to all of the Jimmy Buffet Songs
You Know by Heart and polished off a small keg of beer.
The prediction for this Wednesday evening is for improved racing conditions
and yet another great post-race grill. If you want to try a less crowded
starting line, fine it easier to make a Wednesday night race, or just want to come
for great food at a reasonable cost, take advantage of the new midweek, J22
reciprocity agreement between WYC & MYC and join us tomorrow night out on the
lake.
The menu for each Wednesday night is different and is posted on Mondays on
the MYC website - www.mtka-yc.com
The race starts in front of the MYC club house island at 6:15 pm, the
starting sequence goes in reverse order (slow boats first, E-scows last) and the
finish is also as close to the island as possible so you can get to the grill
quickly after the race.
Hope to see you there,
Mark Christensen

Hey everyone,
Not trying to steal Jappa's thunder here, but wanted to say
congratulations to Lars, Jon and Rod for winning last weekends Prince of
Wales area K semifinals, which qualifies them for the US Sailing
NATIONAL Match Racing championship in Detroit in September. And to
Sean and crew for engineering one of team 865's two defeats in their
match racing debut.
Also, THANK YOU to Joanie Berg and Merry Beth Hovey for opening up their
homes and putting up the out of town sailors and umpires. It was a huge
help and they were very appreciative. It was another great event hosted
by WYC.

Okay, I've had busier days... anyway - several MYC boats were DSQ'd by
the PRO last Saturday (one of their Champ races) for failing to have the
proper safety equipment, specifically a throwable. The notice is on
their web site. Per MYC's SI's (I think ours are the same but don't
have THAT much time on my hands...) these can NOT be used as throw outs
for the series. Fair warning...

Subject: [J22-Fleet 1]Combine Champ Series Scores
Message-ID: <4718615B09C5D311AAC000508B64437803B2678E@exmpls02.mts.com>
Hello Everybody,
Attached are the scores for the combined Champ series so far. We have
completed 5 races so far. However, the series has only 4 races scored due
to lack of wind last Sunday. I apologize for not having posted the scores
on a weekly basis (technical problems). I'll try to do better in the future
(besides Percy gets upset when Terry calls every half hour to ask for the
scores). The scores are posted on
http://www.wyc.org/j22/results/03-fleet1-champ.htm
Thorn's roar is greater than my thunder and he raised an important issue
last week that I would like to elaborate on. Apart from having to follow
the Minnesota specific safety regulations we also have to follow the J22
class rules. Attached is a list of equipment required to race the 22 as a
one design:
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT WHILE RACING
1 At least one fixed marine type compass of magnetic card or digital
type capable only of instantaneous readout.
2 One foghorn.
3 One water-resistant flashlight with spare batteries and bulb.
4 Life jackets or buoyancy aids for each member of the crew as
required by local regulations.
5 One marine first-aid kit and manual.
6 One paddle not less than 1200mm in length.
7 One manual bilge pump and a 10 liter capacity bucket with lanyard.
8 One anchor with or without chain of combined minimum weight of 5kg
with 30m of non-floating warp having a minimum diameter of 8mm. When
carried, the anchor, chain and warp shall be secured together ready for
use and shall not be stowed on or under the cabin sole over the ballast
keel. The minimum weight of the anchor shall be 3 kg and the maximum
weight of the chain shall not exceed 4kg.
9 Code Flag B and copy of the current Racing Rules as issued by the
National Sailing Authority.
10 Safety equipment prescribed by local race management not otherwise
included herein . . . such as flares, etc.
11 All yachts shall carry two fenders of not less than 152mm (6") in
diameter and not less than 406mm (16") in length or two spherical
fenders not less than 240mm (9.5") in diameter.
Technically anybody can protest you if you don't have the necessary
equipment onboard and I definitely don't encourage that. However, I do
encourage everybody to make sure they have their safety equipment (J22 rule
mandated and MN specific) in order and onboard the boat.
See you on Thursday,
Jappa

races online via their web site. Today's first race in in postponement, but
it sounds like they plan to get racing off shortly.
In addition to the live commentary, there are also mark rounding string
charts updated after each rounding.
Fleet One participants that I see are...Yappa, Lars, T. Foster, and Susan
Turnham of Duluth.
Links to the NA's web site are available from the front page of

Now get back to work,

Race two was just completed a couple minutes ago and Speed Buggy lead much
of the race with a finish in second place. Go Terry, Mary, and Thorn!
Lars and Yappa were buried at the first mark with Lars moving up about 20
places during the race.
