Thanks George,

Sounds like a good plan -- don't know why my email didn't have
the first attachments (Southern Hemisphere) but I have them now.

I have not been very active J22 racing (or other fleet
involvement) in recent years, but I have one suggestion for future
discussions for you guys. The things you are currently discussing,
and voting on, are points that have been a bit contentious since the
beginning of time. I think the real problem is the extreme length of
the Championship series. It runs for nearly the entire season and
really becomes a participation contest as much as a sailing skill
measurement. And I think it is somewhat of a deterrent for Fleet
development, because to be competitive in the Champ series, one must
commit to sailing every Sunday for 18 weeks. I would like to
suggest that the Fleet consider some alternatives -- such as many
shorter series during the season and a Championship regatta (in lieu
of the Champ series) in the fall. Maybe a three day event at the end
of the season that people could plan for well in advance, organize
crew for the entire series, etc. Maybe the current A, B, C series
could remain (or maybe it becomes 6, 3 race series) and if someone
wants to do an outside regatta (sanctioned or not). They could do so
without "blowing" their chances for the Club Championship. For
example, some may want to do Bayfield Race Week, Scow regatta,
Lowisa, etc. Or, go on a vacation with their Families, or on a work
assignment that they cannot reasonably refuse. No matter what you do
to equalize (like the changes you are currently voting on) there are
inequities. When the best sailors are absent, some others move up in
the Fleet, etc. Again, I think an end of season Champ regatta
solves all those issues.

I believe this would ultimately lead to more J22 sailing, more
Fleet member, more boats. For many, the cost of this program is not
prohibitive -- it is the time commitment that gives them pause.

Thanks for your hard work, sustaining and building this great
Fleet.

       Cheers,
       Pat K
