[J22-Fleet 1] Dave Cool Regatta 2015

I will be racing on 810 as my boat will not be ready to go in yet. I like the tradition and I am optimistic that we’ll have ice out before May 3.

I was baptized by fire and ice to sailing and racing in the Cool Regatta by a friend that had a J/22 many, many years ago. Yes he put me on the bow for the coldest and windiest regatta with zero experience. And it was, cold 38° in the morning, and windy. While I was freezing without having proper gear and received a knick name that has something to do with not knowing what to do with the spin pole, it was the start of being addicted to racing for me.

It’s a badge of honor. And the trophy is lovely. 810 is hoping to win it again this year. =o)

I feel confident based on the forecast that the main lake will be ice free by the 26th of April, so a week to splash and ready to sail by May 3 is doable!

En Fuego would prefer to sail the scheduled weekend of May 3-4.

Remember we are hosting a spring preseason party at our home for the J22 Fleet on Sunday April 27 from 4-9 PM. So far I have RSVP's for 35!

I agree with Lars and want to preserve the Dave-style icebreaker adventure.

However, my boat and team aren't quite ready to rumble for this year's season opener adventure... So anyone need crew?

HI There,

I don't own a boat but I feel compelled to point out that the real name of the regatta is "J22 Fleet#1 Dave Cool Ice Breaker Regatta" The trophy is a replica of a shard of ice and the original intention in the dead of gift was that this was a way for the J22 fleet to have the lake to ourselves and embrace the hardiness of the J22 sailor just as Dave Cool would have done.

Just my two cents for your consideration.

As we approach Dave Cool Regatta with ice still on the lake, might we think about moving the regatta to late May next year? (I'm the first to admit I'm a cold weather wimp.)

Pros:

*	Less likely to be abandoned due to late ice out.
*	We might actually have nice weather.
*	Winds are still good in late May.
*	Still early enough for the season shakedown.

Cons:

*	A change of tradition.
*	Less character building.
*	Less sitting on the rail getting buckets of ice-cold water thrown in our face, and I know how much we all love that!

Perhaps we can discuss at Mike Miller's upcoming party.

Regards,
