What a great event! Thanks to the organizers, coaches, crew members and supporters.
I think this should become a regular event.
Looking at my notes here are 3 things I think everybody can work on:
Driving: The skipper must focus on driving before anything else. I saw drivers give away many boat lengths by not paying attention. Fast sails and great trim means nothing if the driving is all over the place. Get the crew to help so the driver can drive.
Sail trim: Teach the trimmers how to take responsibility for their sail as well as how to trim. By the time the skipper tells the trimmer to adjust the trim the moment is already gone.
Communication: Communication needs to happen continuously in both directions. Why is the driver headed off? to build speed? tactical choice? or a cluster? If the crew knows what is going on they can help or participate. Same thing from the crew to the skipper. Say out loud if you change the trim on the sails. Downwind the spin trimmer should constantly be talking about pressure on the sheet. This is the cue for the skipper to "heat it up" or "drive deeper". I saw many instances of the opposite, the skipper telling the trimmer what to do.
These are the top three things I would say everybody could do a better job of.
Overall a huge success, the fleet did a great job.
