[J22-Fleet 1] J/22 Class Association Report

J/22 Fleet Members:

 

There was a J/22 Class Association meeting yesterday. Here are a few
highlights:

 

*         Championship Regatta Updates:

o   2016 World Championship at CORK, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 19 - 26
(just 1,086 miles from here)

*  If you're planning on going, register early. 

*  They recommend that you secure accommodations early - options include
hotels, dorms and camping.

*  Information on crossing the border will be posted on the class website.

o   2017 Midwinters Championship, Southern YC, New Orleans, LA, March 24 -
26, 2017

o   2017 World Championship, The Netherlands from June 2 - 5

o   2018 World Championship, Annapolis Yacht Club, Sept. 8 - 14.

*         Scholarship Boat Update http://www.j22.com/index.php/scholarship 

o   Patrick Shanahan from Brown University was awarded the first 2016
scholarship boat. 

*  I proofed the press release Tuesday, he and his crew have very impressive
backgrounds. When the press release is available, I'll send it out on list
serve. You'll likely find it interesting as well.

*  They will attend at least five J/22 events this summer and Worlds. 

*  They will be dry sailing in Connecticut for club races. 

*  The Class is looking for additional donations for sails. They have $950
so far.

o   There were only four youth that tried for this year's scholarship boat.
It would be great to see a WYC youth try for it next year. Uhhhmmmm Matt T.
any ideas?

*         Youth Development Update

o   The Class has an initiative to get more youth sailors racing J/22s. 

o   The first two young J/22 sailors were profiled in the Class newsletter.
They were both from WYC and our sailing school. If you haven't seen it,

o   We will have another WYC young J/22 sailor profiled in the next
newsletter. 

o   If you are a candidate for the young J/22 sailor profile or know someone

will also be posted on the J/22 Class website.

*         Articles for the Class Newsletter

o   Lars provided a feature article for the fall Class Association
newsletter that was extremely good. That is also on our wyc.org/J22 website.

o   If anyone has something they want to write, the Class Association is
always looking for content. 

*         Technical Update

o   The technical committee is looking at safety/equipment list on the
measurement certificate in an effort to break out the actual measurement
pieces with the equipment being on a separate document. They are also
inquiring with the IJ22CA's rule change process on the tow line.
