  Hello everyone.

I thought it might be a good idea to give you all a final update on our
regatta, to be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, August 19 - 21. That's just 3
weeks away. All is going well and I'm not particularly concerned about
anything relating to the organization of this event. 3 bands are booked,
the kitchens are getting extra food in the freezers, the Race Committee has
fuelled up the boats. We're now just waiting for YOU, the most important
part of the event. I have asked a few times who we might expect to show up
and still don't really have a clear picture but my best guess is as follows:

                  BC 1 (my best guess)

Ontario 3 (sort of a guess)

                  Quebec 5 (I think someone
suggested maybe 6)

                  Shediac 8 (pretty confident
about this number)

                  PEI 1 (definite)

                  Halifax 15 (could be more)

NE USA 2 (my best guess)

                  Europe 1 (well.maybe. We
heard from one team)

Colorado 1 (someone told me there
was a team showing up from Colorado)

                                  Total 38

The purpose of this email is to bring you all up to speed on the event and
hopefully inspire a few more attendees. Here are a few details that also
exist on the website at www.j24cdnnats2010.wordpress.com, but sometimes it's
easiest to have everything in a single email.

  1. SCHEDULE

August 11 - 14 Chester Race Week! Use this event as a warmup. Chester
is a fantastic place that holds the biggest keelboat regatta in North
America each year. Hundreds of boats show up and there are commonly about a
dozen J24's.

  Tuesday and Wednesday, August 16 - 18 - measurement

  Wednesday - Practice Race

Wednesday night following the practice race: 2 piece band "Northern
Ramblers" playing Maritime, folk and other lively music.

Thursday following the first day's racing - crews are on their own.

Friday following racing - BBQ (free to all racers) followed by fantastic
music by "The Castaways", who play all that music everyone loves. Older
stuff, pop music, dancing music, cover music, great dancing tunes.

Saturday at the Spar Shed - Awards Banquet Lobster and beef supper. Free
to all racers. It'll be a great supper. Music to the wee hours by Big
City. They will ROCK the place like we haven't seen in a while. We'll all
be able to cry in our beer over our performance or celebrate our victory. I
have prizes organized for the top 5 finishers that you're not going to
believe, and the first 3 finishers will win a free sail from Victory
Sailmakers.

  2. COSTS

The regatta fee is $425 per boat. This includes 5 tickets to each of the
Friday BBQ and the Awards Banquet and 5 free t-shirts that will have our
fantastic logo on the front. Some have wondered why the cost is high, and
admittedly at $85 per person it's steep, however compared to all of the
other costs that one faces going to such a regatta the $85 is small but you
do get a lot for it. My main objective is getting the number of attendees
up, so if you would like to attend but REALLY, REALLY, REALLY cannot afford
the $85 per person, give me a phone call. I do not want that cost to
prevent anyone from being here. I'm at 902 445 4433. I will work out
something that can reduce your costs. Promise.

  3. HOTELS

We have two hotel sponsors: The Delta Barrington, which is downtown
Halifax and a nice place. A little more reasonable is the Atlantica Hotel.
It is a little closer. Both of these hotels have been very supportive. The
Atlantica has given us some free rooms and we will receive a rebate from
the Delta for every room that is booked for this regatta, so please let us
know if you are planning on going to one.

  4. SAFETY

We will have our own doctor on site in case of medical emergencies

  5. PRIZES

Each of the first 5 boats will receive trophies for all 5 crew members.
They're nice, trust me! In addition, a free sail for each of the first 3
boats. Other prizes as well. We have great sponsors. All boats
participating in the regatta will go home with a framed action photo of
their boat in the regatta.

  6. CHARTER BOATS

We had a few and might still have a few. I think there are 3 that have
been rented to date. If you need one, just call or email and ask. It's
probably not too late.

  7. WEBSITE

Pretty much everything you might need to know is on the website at
www.j24cdnnats2010.wordpress.com.

  8. LUNCH

Box lunches will be available at the RNSYS clubhouse each morning, for
$10. Sandwich, fruit, drink, cookies etc. Made on the spot right in front
of you.

  9. BREAKFAST

RNSYS will prepare breakfast each morning starting on Tuesday. Not
expensive.

  10. MERCHANDISE

Each boat registering will receive 5 free t-shirts. We will also have
spares that will be for sale for $15. The photo in the logo is nothing shy
of fantastic and it will be printed on the shirts in full colour. In
addition, RNSYS will have it's own merchandise for sale in a shop near the
main entrance to the clubhouse. Some really good stuff, for sure, and
honestly it's very reasonably priced.

  11. POOL PARTY

We are planning a pool party for the Friday night. Might or might not
happen. We'll have the BBQ there, with the band, dancing, patio lanterns
and tiki torches to set the mood. This party could be a blast. We'll
probably arrange crazy swimming races and stuff like that. Keep us all in
the fun mode.

  12. BAR OPEN EARLY!

It's 5 O'Clock somewhere, right? At least that's my excuse. Those
wanting a pre-race drink can enjoy one as early as 10 AM, served by our very
own Travis, the Bar Manager. If you have a special need, Travis is the most
helpful guy at the club.

  13. JUST ASK!

The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron is one of the friendliest places you'
ll ever find. From the General Manager, Kevin Hurd, through Don Small, the
Chef, to Travis, the Bar Manager and Wayne Blundell, the Dockmaster I
guarantee unconditionally that you will be treated well. This club knows
how to put on an event and they know how to make you feel at home. If you
have a question of any nature whatsoever and can't seem to find one of the
35 volunteers for this event, just ask any of the Squadron staff. They will
help you out or get you to someone who can help you. I guarantee it, or
your money back. (well..)

We really look forward to putting on one of the best regattas you've ever
attended. Sure hope to see you all here in Halifax.
