As presented and approved in our annual meeting this year, we are providing our fleet members with training opportunities to suit the varied needs of our fleet.

Deadline for your input will be Monday, August 15th

Social tomorrow night weather dependent.

A message from our Training Committee Chair T. Cody Turnquist:



With many great and competitive regattas coming up, the J24 fleet #1 needs to prove that we are still the best fleet in North America!  The J24 fleet has put aside $2000 -2500 a year for training over the next 2 years.  So let's all come together learn a little and better our fleet!  This 2011 season will help Spring board us into the 2012 training program where we anticipate bringing in nationally recognized professionals such as Andrew Kerr,  Dave Perry or Chris Snow...

·         Key West Race Week - FL: January 16, 2012

·         J/24 Midwinters - FL: TBD

·         Chicago NOOD - IL: June 12, 2012

·         Nat’l Championship - Lake Dillon CO: June 24, 2012

·         World Championship ,Rochester, NY: September 15, 2012

·         North American Championship, Jackson FL: November 14, 2012

·         District 15 Championship: TBD

Education Opportunities

1.       Crew Training: Watch the J/24 boat handling videos from North/Sails and J World. (Driving, trimming, foredeck, boat handling, tactics all discussed with Terry Foster)

2.       Individual Boat Training Program: Fleet sponsorship program up to $150.00 Per boat..

3.       Fleet training (fleet 4-6 boats):  1 to 2 session(s) on and off the water  (all day event, before U-gotta regatta)

4.       Mentoring Program:  Old Crew Vs. New.   We would like to make it a point to meet every Thursday night after racing to discuss events that took place on the water.  This will program has been incorporated into other fleets at WYC with great success.  So Grab your crew and a few adult beverages, lets meet for 30 minutes and talk racing!

Any dedicated funds not spent this year may be applied to next year's budget.

Programs that fit your program’s needs:

J24 Fleet Training Initiation Night:  (Date TBD)

·         Enjoy an Evening at the club watching the J24 Boat Handling Video from North Sails.  There will be beverages and food while we discuss the video with Terry Foster.

Individual Boat Training program ($150.00 per hour)

·         J24 fleet one will provide a stipend up to $150.00

·         Overall cost will be based on number of boats who join into the program.  Potential instructors  may be Terry Foster and/or Gordy Bowers

·         Scheduling will be up to the boat owner and instructors  (No need for additional scheduling, this type of training may occur during Thursday and Sunday racing)

Fleet training (4 + boats)

·         Depending on the type of response, The j24 fleet will either provide 1 to 2 days of on and off the water training (not back to back)

·         On the water coverage:
I. Boat speed (Sitting, steering, sail trim)

                        II. Starting

                        III. Tactics and Strategy  (if there is light wind)

·         Video footage (TBD)

·         Debrief social at the club, Video footage will be watched and discussed by all

·         Instructors considered:  Gordy Bowers

·         Costs:         ~$800.00-1,600.00

·         Dates:        Aug.  28th

                        Sept. 4th

                        Sept. 11th

·         We would advocate that attendance for this program would be based on our rule for missed race by giving boats average points for the current series/champ races missed due to this training event.

Mentoring Program:

·         There is a lot of knowledge floating around the Club.  Let's put it to good use and help some of these beginners.  By providing people who are willing to dedicate a few hours a week to go through their specialized positions, boat set up, boat inventory/documentation, etc.  It will help break those communication barriers from newbie's and the veterans.

·         After Racing Social:  Let’s discuss what happened on the water, who was fast, who had issues, etc.  Meet on the island every Thursday night after racing


NOTE:  Please review and discuss with your team, we will be having a J/24 social after Thursday (Aug, 11th) racing and deciding on the training options as a fleet!  Deadline will be Monday, August 15th.  If weather is poor we will delay the social to August 18th where we will announce the outcomes.
