                        U.S. J/24 Class Association Update

John Mollicone Dominates J/24 Tune-up in Oswego

This past weekend, 26 J/24 teams from District 7 and
beyond traveled to Oswego Yacht Club to get a taste of what they might
expect next month when the J/24 World Championship is to be sailed 60 miles
to the west in Rochester, NY. Conditions generally favored the light crews
as race one was sailed in a dying offshore breeze and flat water.
Thankfully, a 6-8 knot seabreeze kicked in for races 2-4. John Mollicone
and his 11th Hour Racing team made it look easy as they posted two bullets
and two two's on day one to lead by a healthy 21 points. Other Saturday
race winners included Newport's Mike Marshall and Oswego native, John
Enwright's Rake Hell team.

The forecast for Sunday was for much the same
conditions, as land temperatures would likely approach 90 degrees. Once
again, 11th Hour Racing seemed smartest as they found a way to win in the
shifty offshore southerly. The real battle was for second place overall as
Marshall, Mike Ingham, Travis Odenbach, Thomas Barbeau, and Oswego's Tom
Doran were all in the mix. Sailing a second race on Sunday would give the
teams a throwout, which really tightened thing up. Placing was mixed further
when the seabreaze abruptly kicked in on the regatta's final downwind leg.
When things were sorted out the results were as follows (see attachment).

Quantum's Tim Healy saw it this way from the
tactician's position aboard 11th Hour Racing, "Conditions were tricky with a
morning offshore breeze that would die and shift to the onshore sea breeze.
The morning breeze was very shifty but the key was to sail to the closest
land where the strongest wind was. In the afternoon the racing in the sea
breeze again sailing closer to the shore worked. I think this was partially
due to a foul current on the upwind leg that was stronger offshore. The Race
Committee did a spectacular job getting six good races in. They were
constantly shifting the course and shortening when necessary. "

Almost Time for the 2012 J/24 World Championship!

                        September 13-21
                        Rochester Yacht Club, Rochester, NY

Over 100 J/24 teams will be descending on Rochester
Yacht Club for the first "open" J/24 Worlds in decades. With racing on
September 17-21, a strong American contingent will be doing battle against
past World, European, North American, South American, Canadian, Bermudan,
Brazilian, Argentinean, Chilean, Peruvian and Japanese Champions.

There is still time to join the fun as registrations
are being accepted until September 1. We are lining up many sponsors to
help make this a great event. Kattack is on board and Piehler Land
Rover/Jaguar has signed on as our auto sponsor. Quantum Sails has provided
a new Genoa that we are raffling off!

If you won't be attending, follow along on Facebook
or Twitter. Watch our home page for updates, Kattack and links to photos
and videos.

2012 J/24 North American Championship Registration
Going Strong

With just under three months before the first gun,
more than 20 boats have already registered for the Merrill Lynch-Bank of
America J/24 North American Championship. Competitors include 2010 World
Champion Tim Healy, 2011 European Champion Mike Ingham and 2010 U.S.
National Champion Will Welles. This regatta is a must-do for J/24s from
across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The Florida Yacht Club, host of the 2007
U. S. Nationals and the annual King's Day Regatta, is sure to once again
provide memorable shore-side events highlighting the club's southern
hospitality and featuring the famous FYC Oyster Roast and seafood dinner.
The St. Johns River never fails to provide challenging racing conditions as
well--all just minutes from the clubhouse.

For those attending the East Coast Championship in
Annapolis, the Florida Yacht Club will provide complimentary onsite boat and
vehicle storage between the two events. For more information including
registration and the NOR, please visit the regatta website. Questions and
requests for storage should be sent to Tim Monahan.

Founded in 1876 and located on the St. John's River,
the Florida Yacht Club has hosted many championship level regattas in its
110+ year history. For more information including how to register for the
2012 Merrill Lynch/Bank of America J/24 North American Championship regatta,

                        J/24 District 2 Championship

The 40th annual Buzzards Bay Regatta got off a
number of races during the August 3-5 event. The 12-boat J/24 fleet was
dominated by Travis Odenbach of Rochester Yacht Club in New York with all
first-place tallies, making for a total of 10 points in 11 races (with the
throw-out). The regatta also served as the J/24 District 2 Championship. For
complete information and results, visit www.buzzardsbayregatta.com.

                        J/24 Western Regional Championship

The J/24 Western Regionals took place August 4-5 at
the Berkeley Yacht Club, combining the TMC District 20 Championship together
with the Western Regionals. 10 J/24s competed in seven races, with Three Big
Dogs coming out on top with 13 points. Close behind was Jaded (15 points)
and TMC Racing (16 points). Complete results

                        Western Lake Superior J/24 Championship

At the third annual Western Lake Superior J/24
Championship from July 28-29, racing started on Saturday with a 5-7 knot SSW
wind and about 80 degrees. Racing was held on Lake Superior near the
business district for spectator participation, and four races were held. A
social event with music, dancing, stories of the day and great food
followed.

On day 2, racing started with a very light shifting
WSW wind in the Duluth Superior Harbor with a temperature of 78 degrees.
About half-way through the first leg, the breeze built to 7-8 knots and
filled in over the course. The breeze built over the day to a steady 10
knots and provided great competition and very close finishes on five races.

PRO John Hoenig put off nine races over two days
with only two short postponements.
                        Results:
                        1. 151 - 4,3,3,5,3,2,3,4,3 (30 points)
                        2. Train Wreck - 2,2,1,2,2,3,2,1,2 (17)
                        3. Danger Zone #2 - 3,5,6,6,4,5,4,5,6 (44)
                        4. Insatiable, 1,1,2,1,1,1,1,2,1 (11)
                        5. Danger Zone - 5,6,5,46,4,6,6,5 (47)
                        6. Snake Charmer - 6,4,4,3,5,6,5,3,4 (40)

Awards followed racing, and placement prizes were
distributed to skippers and crew for outstanding performance, sportsmanship
and interesting spinnaker work. For more information about the event or
racing on Western Lake Superior, contact Ben Stauber.

Robby Brown Wins J/24 District 10 Championship
Regatta

Great to see all the Davis Island boats once again
on Biscayne Bay in July, and as usual Robby Brown and John Paulson sailed
great races and took first and second with throw-outs of a fourth place
each. Tricia Walker and Gary Sprague did a great job sailing Scouts Prideto
to a third place and allowing Fleet 10 to keep a trophy this year! Thank you
goes to all the sailors for making the effort to be out there for a great
regatta weekend. Special thanks to Chip Till, District 8 Governor, for
flying down and sailing with Longshot. Thank you to the RC/Judges/Support
people for making the regatta happen. A lot goes into organizing regattas
and having the best people makes it easy. The sailors don't know it, but
there was support from at least three yacht clubs on the bay, the US Sailing
Center and local fleet members. Results are posted at www.j24miami.com.
