[J24 ListSrv] MYC Has Generously Offered WYC Members Free Use of Their Crane While Ours Is Broken

Hi all,

 

Steve Bren is working hard to get the WYC Crane fixed, but it is a much
bigger job than just a minor repair. They are having to remove the entire
arm with a big Rocket Crane truck, repair it, including having to do some
machining, and put it back together. We will be fortunate if we have it by
the weekend May 25

 

MYC Has Generously Offered WYC Members Free Use of Their Crane While Ours Is
Broken. The two yacht clubs have worked together for years to use each
other's committee boats, no charge, if one has a broken boat or needs an
extra boat for a major regatta.  

 

However their crane doesn't have a strong back with big straps that go
around the bottom of the boat like ours.  You must use a lifting strap which
most people at WYC don't have.  Their Crane is limited to 4000 pounds and
only has a motorized up-and-down. MYC has had to slide back their race
schedule so this weekend is a massive 1) put the lifts in the water, then 2)
put in all the boats with the Crane at Carson's Bay.  So this is not a good
weekend for anybody from WYC to use the MYC Crane.  They are going to have a
logjam with their own boats.

 

However, WYC members are welcome to put their boat in using the MYC Crane
with the following procedure:



1.    Complete all of your boat preparation at home including testing the
fit of the lifting strap, the bottom paint etc.

2.    It might be better to drop your mast off in the WYC West parking lot
and take it out to the WYC gin pole you are used to using so it is not in
the way when you are using the MYC Crane.

3.    Call Tony, the MYC maintenance person, and make an appointment.  (612)
600-8231.

4.    Tony will meet you at the Crane, use his swipe card to turn it on, and
assist you in putting your boat in.

5.    There is no MYC charge for this service but you must give Tony a $20
bill as a tip for helping you out.
