With only 3’-6” water depth at the crane now, and the J/70’s 5’ draft, some sort of accommodation will be necessary. Chaque was delivered to the Davis Island Yacht Club new, on its ‘convertible trailer’ in the low-profile mode and with the keel in the up position. When lifting the hull with the big DIYC crane, the keel did not fall into place; a few tress leaves had fallen into the gap between keel and hull and were enough to keep it jammed and would not falling into place, mysteriously not even budging until the dried gunk was eventually dissolved with a stream of soap and water. We can raise the keel using a drill bit. The former owner did it all the time although the ramp depth may not be good either. This is increasing concern about low water in the marina. We measured the approximate water depth a many places in the marina on 8/20/2021. This information, combined with the daily measurement at Grays Bay Dam will help you plan when you need to take action. Access to the crane is a particular concern. The club is assessing options.
