find out if we might be interested in hosting a winter seminar at WYC.
The format would be similar to the traditional winter seminars,
with pizza and beer/wine, followed by a presentation. The price would be $20 to
attend.

The following are lists of possible presentation topics. Each
topic is generally 1 to 1 1/2 hour long, and so the presentation could
potentially include two topics.

Please let me know if you would be
interested in attending a seminar this winter, and if so, which of the following
topics would be of most interest to you. If there is enough interest, I will
schedule a seminar sometime after the first of the year.

I appreciate
any feedback you might provide.

Thanks,
Beth Frampton
<A

Cruising Computer

You probably own a laptop and a cell phone, but do you take advantage of
the profusion of marine resources and tools now available for personal
computers? Why not harness the power of electronic charts, satellite imagery,
sophisticated piloting features, weather downloads, buddy boat tracking,
geo-referencing a digital photo library, free local and international calling,
and an inexhaustible supply of downloadable nautical references? This seminar
covers a range of ideas and scenarios for bringing a laptop and smartphone
aboard … and learning to do more with them!

Mobile Apps for Mariners

When Apple tells us "there's an app for that," do they mean boating? Can an
iPad really replace your chartplotter? Join us for a marine mashup of
best-of-breed smartphone and tablet applications. We'll cover electronic
charting; automatically identifying other vessels (AIS); maintaining fuel,
travel and maintenance logs; finding boat ramps; forecasting weather; setting
anchor alarms; referencing nautical publications such as the nav rules or light
lists; and much-much more!

Cruising the Great Loop Inland Waterway — Chicago to Land Between the
Lakes

Join us for a fun and informative preview of the Inland Waterway from
Chicago to Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky and Tennessee. Still a Mark Twain
adventure, this river route includes the Illinois, Upper Mississippi, Ohio,
Tennessee, and Cumberland Rivers. This presentation overviews what to expect
when transiting these commercial waterways and offers valuable river-by-river
planning and cruising advice.

Managing the ICW Dream — Norfolk to Miami

Join us for a fun and informative preview of the Atlantic Intracoastal
Waterway. For many boaters, transiting the ICW is a trip of a lifetime. But
planning ahead is the key. With the right resources and a bit of foresight, your
vessel becomes your magic carpet ride through this historical and wildlife-rich
slice of waterfront America. This presentation highlights the route and offers
valuable state-by-state planning advice.

Exploring the Florida Keys — Miami to the Dry Tortugas

Join us for a fun and informative preview of the Florida Keys. Often
called, "America's Bahamas," this 192-mile chain of small islands is home to
North America's only barrier coral reef. Boasting plentiful and convenient
services, and a tropical average temperature of 82ºF, this is truly America's
cruising, fishing, and diving paradise. This presentation highlights both Hawk
Channel and Florida Bay routes and offers valuable planning and cruising
advice.
_______________________________________________________________________
<SPAN
