cc: The members of the Board of Directors of Wayzata Yacht Club

Randy and Board members:

Thank you for the extremely generous letter. I very much appreciate it. However, please allow me to suggest that it is mildly misdirected.

It is the S2 7.9 Fleet in its entirety, and everyone who sailed in the 2015 Class Championship Regatta, that owes the many significant WYC contributors a huge debt of gratitude. We could not have planned, nor run, such a hugely successful event without the support of many many terrific people.

First, it is via the ongoing efforts of a completely supportive Board of Directors that events like this even begin to get discussed. No great organization succeeds without visionary and hard working directors. So, thanks to you all. I'm only sorry that you (Randy) beat me to the punch on the 'Thank You' card.

Next, Steve Bren. Simply put, the regatta would not have succeeded without Steve. No way. Steve's calm advice, his 'just get it done' demeanor and his unceasing ability to think ahead, were the difference between success and failure. From parking boats to the tent on the lawn, Steve had a hand in every single thing.

Next, the RC and everyone involved there. Suffice to say that once again the WYC RC was a stand-out. From the planning, to the communication to competitors, to course management, it was exceptional. All of this with Blake 'playing hurt' during the event...well that was simply astonishing - a tribute to our club. Quite a few out-of-towners commented specifically, and very positively, about the RC.

Next, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to a cast of 'WYC Regulars' who hit it out of the park on all of the behind-the-scenes things necessary to make a great event happen. Kevin Kenny wrote a clear, bullet-proof set of SI and Blake Middleton helped with edits that kept things simple. Bruce Martinson had an international-caliber group of judges set up. (I think they may well have scared people enough to keep things protest-free. There's a bonus!) Ernie did the scoring. Ron Myszkowski and Teri Ross were out on the course as volunteer RC members. And Sean Delaney created a great signature cocktail for Rum Night on Thursday.

'Regulars' like this do NOT exist in places without leadership at the top. Never.

And I while appreciate every word in your letter, IMHO it is the greater group that makes our club strong. So, we owe you the "Thanks".

All the best,

Tom Elsen, on behalf of co-chair David Crum and the entire S2 7.9 Fleet.

RE:    S2 7.9 National Championship Board Recognition for Representing the WYC with a Great Event
Tom:
I am honored to be a representative from our Board in thanking you for your leadership efforts as Fleet Captain with this year’s S2 7.9 National Championship Regatta. It is the efforts of members like you who take an active role, volunteering time and providing your talents, to make the Wayzata Yacht Club one of the most fantastic organizations in the sailing committee, here and abroad.
Hosting large events at WYC has become something that the club has become known for. Our venue - Lake Minnetonka, the staff and RC, the communication and coordination with MYC, the facilities, and your crew work in all the volunteering efforts make us a reliable and fabulous place to hold an event. Your team has maintained that reputation based on the results and feedback from the regatta you all hosted this year and we want to thank you for that. This legacy is important so that we remain a viable solution for these types of events in the future and so that we stay relevant in the sailing community.
Great out of town showing, good officiation including no protests, good conditions, and a great social was recognized by the competitors and our members. All in all, a class operation with great food, music and a wonderful awards ceremony with Jerry and his crew winning big.
So thank you again for this and your past commitment to the Club. It is always appreciated.
Best, Wayzata Yacht Club
