[S2] Learning to Live with the List Server

I have been overwhelmed all morning by failed emails to the list server because of the many people hitting "reply all" to an email from John Dyer (we love you John) announcing that Holly Jo Anderson is the new fleet captain for the J22 fleet, and Bob Leach is the new treasurer.

Everyone wants to congratulate Holly and Bob.  By the way, Congratulations from me to Holly and Bob.

The reason for the email failures is "too many recipients".

Look at the "To" list above. Only list server groups are included.  And you got it, right? (Raise your hand if you did not get it. Nevermind. Bad joke.)

Look at the list below.  The "CCs" are the big problem here.

THE LIST SERVER DOES NOT LIKE IT WHEN AN EMAIL SENT TO ONE OR MORE LIST SERVER GROUPS IS ALSO SENT TO A BUNCH OF INDIVIDUAL EMAIL ADDRESSES.

And if you look at the individuals listed, they are all included in the groups listed.

Remember:  You must be a member of the group you are sending to, to not have your email rejected by the server. Which would still create a problem for this email because most of the people hitting "reply all" are not members of the fleet captains group (Fleets), so all of those emails would fail, but I could just delete them.

And second, if you send emails using the list server, avoid including individual email addresses.

Sorry this got so long. Just a teaching moment.  Hope you are all having a good day.  If you are unsure about sending an email through the list server, call me and I can walk you through it.
