<html><head><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></head><body dir="auto"><div><div style="direction: inherit;">Hello everyone -</div><div style="direction: inherit;"><br></div><div style="direction: inherit;">I am VERY pleased to report that, last night, the Wayzata Yacht Club Race Committee Rules Review Working-Subcommittee....(read 'Terry Foster') approved a substantial change to the WYC Sailing Instructions. </div><div style="direction: inherit;"><br></div><div style="direction: inherit;">This change enables exactly the 'One Turn Penalty' provisions that the S2 Fleet has used at our Class Championships for several years. (Kevin Kenny and I drafted that language. And it's been very popular.) It is designed to make racing, especially in crowded and mixed-fleet venues, more fun and make penalties reflect the infraction. </div><div style="direction: inherit;"><br></div><div style="direction: inherit;">The exact language will be released within the week, but it essentially as follows:</div><div style="direction: inherit;"><br></div><div style="direction: inherit;">If you violated a rule in Part 2 ('When Boats Meet') you may take a <b>One Turn (360°) penalty.....</b>As long as that infraction takes place....</div><div style="direction: inherit;">- <b>AFTER</b> the start</div><div style="direction: inherit;">- <b>OUTSIDE</b> the zone (remember its 3 boatlengths)</div><div style="direction: inherit;">- and there is <b>NO CONTACT</b> between boats. </div><div style="direction: inherit;"><br></div><div style="direction: inherit;">If the infraction is <u>prior</u> to the start, <u>inside</u> the zone or if there is <u>contact</u>, then you do the normal <u>two turns</u> (720°) penalty. </div><div style="direction: inherit;"><br></div><div style="direction: inherit;">Simple. Easy. Great!</div><div style="direction: inherit;">Now a small mid-cue won't irredeemably destroy your race. </div><div style="direction: inherit;"><br></div><div style="direction: inherit;">If you would please, drop Terry and Kevin a line.
