Subject: [Sonar] February 19 Trans-Superior for Sonar skiers

I know we have some avid skiers in the group.

There are a bunch of us,  mostly from from the Duluth and Bayfield sailing scene
at this point that are doing a ski race across a chunk of Lake Superior called
the Book Across the Bay.    We are renting rooms at the water park hotel in
Ashland for the evening of February 19, the same evening of the race.   I think
we're up to 5 rooms booked now.

For those of us that may opt out of the Trans Superior race on soft water,  this
is our chance to say we still did it anyways even though its only a little
sliver of the lake,  but who's picky?   (2011 is a Trans Superior sailboat race
year).

Its a 10km ski race from Ashland to Washburn WI across the ice at night.
There are about 3500 in the race and there is a huge tent party  (warm temps)
with plenty of libation at the end.   Its very much a Bayfield/No. WI event in
character.  I've done the race 4 or 5 times and there is everybody from elite
racer to people on snowshoes or pulling sleds with kids and those who have never
been on skis before.

Here is a Youtube that shows what its like.

The website for the event is http://www.batb.org

If you're interested,  the rooms fill up fast and you'll not want to have to go
too far after the party ideally.

Let me know.
