[Sonar] Without objection $30 Fleet money to renew domain for 2 years

Marty, I vote to renew and maybe we should renew it for longer (Ken’s suggestion) so we don’t have to think about it. I believe this falls under administration/fleet management and we don’t have to vote on it, much like paying bank fees to keep our fleet bank account open etc. ie - it’s the ongoing cost of doing fleet business and should be budgeted as an ongoing cost each year.

Hey Fleet 5,

Below is part of a conversation about renewing our domain name. I'd like to encourage accepting and proceeding based on Hans' recommendation. Hopefully it's appropriate fleet governance to simply ask that we proceed with this plan if there's no objection, rather than go through voting protocal. If any boat owner would prefer more discussion and voting, that's fine. If there are not expressions of desire for more discussion on this topic within a week or so, we'll proceed. Thanks, MF

No problem. There is time to renew.

And 2 years makes sense. If it is still working for the fleet, we can renew after the end of that term for longer or just keep doing every 2 years.

One thing to let people know, that they can see today, is browsing to <http://www.sonar5.org/> www.sonar5.org will take them right to the WYC Sonar area. Of course, we need some fresh new content there… I am happy to help if content becomes known to me.

Cheers!
Hans

I agree to the idea to take Hans' recommendation on this. I guess I lean toward just a couple year to then see how frequent its used in normal years. I thought I might notify the fleet of this approach stating that this purchase would happen unless there's objections that would require discussion and vote. I'm kinda busy the next few days putting the boat together so perhaps I won't put a note out til the weekend. MF

Hi Marty,

During NAs last year, I registered <http://sonar5.org/> sonar5.org for the fleet. Right now, <http://www.sonar5.org/> www.sonar5.org< <http://www.sonar5.org/> http://www.sonar5.org> jumps to <http://wyc.org/sonar/Home.aspx> http://wyc.org/sonar/Home.aspx. But there was another reason for its use, other than being handy. It was useful for PayPal and could be used for mail forwarding (at some point, we could have treasurer at sonar5.org<mailto:treasurer at sonar5.org> setup and used by various vendors or other services, then it allows centralized adjustment to forward emails to the appropriate persons.

There could be other purposes as well.

That being said, it is up for renewal and costs $15/year. If interested in keeping the domain active, I recommend multiple years just for the sake of convenience, although I know the budget is tight.

My recommendation is to renew it and use it as needed. If there is a desire for email forwarding or a separate mailbox, I am happen to donate that space.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or thoughts.

Cheers!
Hans
