From andy.spence-parsons at comcast.net Mon Mar 1 21:14:45 2021 From: andy.spence-parsons at comcast.net (Andy Spence-Parsons) Date: Mon, 1 Mar 2021 21:14:45 -0600 Subject: [Sonar] WYC Spring Update. Message-ID: <1411DEE0-5605-4BAC-BA33-25424874AF9D@comcast.net> The 40-degrees this weekend makes it feel like we’ve rounded the weather mark of winter. We're reaching towards the next mark; Spring! There was open water inside the ice fence at WYC yesterday! All good signs. Perfect time for the following update. Marina. All slips and most mooring balls have been assigned. The map will be published this week. If you have paid your mooring dues in full; thank you. If you still owe a payment, I urge you to do it soon. We have members eagerly waiting to upgrade from mooring balls to slips. Similar to last season, we anticipate the need to schedule launch slots and assisted put-in appointments. More soon. Racing. There are encouraging signs all around that we will be able to host a more “normal” season this year with the A, B, C, G, T, and M series. We'll continue to hold the Big Island series on Saturday's. New for this year will be a Single/Double Handed series for Monday evenings in June. Kevin Kenny is putting the finishing touches to the schedule, which we'll publish soon. We'll adjust as needed. Signal Boat. As you know, we're searching for a new signal boat. We have several excellent candidates identified. As the COVID situation improves and travel restrictions are relaxed, we'll be able to arrange product testing. In the meantime, we will have access to the AIS signal boat, and plan to repower the Whaler. Spring Seminars. Terry will host three seminars via ZOOM on the rules, strategy, and tactics of sailboat racing on three consecutive Tuesdays in April. Additionally Kevin and Bruce will host a ZOOM presentation of the new rules for 2021-2024. You won’t want to miss any of these events. Stay tuned. Drink drinks... and tell lies.  At least, that is how Bert would have described it! Join us next Thursday as we start to wind down our winter hibernation, and get ready to pull the boats out of barns, and stir up the VC-17. No RSVP required.  You will receive an email with the Zoom link on Wednesday, March 10.  Just click the link around 5:00 p.m., and you can see happy faces and send virtual hugs. If you do not receive the link next Wednesday, send me a text or an email, and I will be sure you get it.  If you still have the link from the February Happy Hour, you can use that link.  Same party, same link. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We hope all of you are doing well! What a year 2020 was! As you may recall, WYC was selected to host the Sonar North Americans in 2020, but unfortunately, the pandemic forced us to postpone the regatta to 2021. That brings us to now, where there are encouraging signs all around that we will have a more “normal” sailing season this year. The Sonar Class Association (SCA) and WYC Board are open and interested in our fleet hosting the 2021 Sonar North Americans September 17-19, 2021 (Friday - Sunday). Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, is hosting Sonar Worlds in 2022. Because the SCA believes there is pent-up demand for regatta participation by sailors, the event can be as low-key or event-filled as desired by our fleet, our club, its volunteers, and governed safety precautions. While we both were excited to chair the 2020 NAs, we decided we cannot take on this total effort in 2021. Personal and work demands have altered our lives for the time being. We will volunteer via remote sessions until we are vaccinated. The areas best suited for us to volunteer are financial (bookkeeping/budgets) and technology (social media, scoring, website, document library, and scheduling remote sessions via Microsoft Teams - we both have paid licenses). You can likely guess who would do what ;-). We have a 2020 North American Planning OneNote notebook we can share or copy. Please share your thoughts with the fleet.
