<div>You also have the option of using the existing holes. I did this by making two aluminum plates instead of using the factory stainless. Then you can drill holes to match the existing ones in the mast. The aluminum plates won't cut into the thru bar. Any hardware store can sell you a strip of aluminum that you can bend to the mast shape. Mine are about 1/8 thick.

<div>Whatever you decide to do, it is important to use a pair of clamps to slightly compress the mast side to side while you drill the holes through the spreaders into the thru bar. The bolts or clevis pins should fit tightly and exactly into the spreaders and the bar. Sand and file the base of the spreaders first so that they fit snugly to the side plates with the new angles that the thru bar give you. Then when you release the clamps the mast will expand against the base of the spreaders giving you a tight fit and preventing any motion that will cause wear in the future.

</span></font> <br><br><font face="sans-serif" size="2"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: sans-serif">I noticed last year that my spreaders were loose and ordered the kit from Shumway this winter.</span></font> <br>
<font face="sans-serif" size="2"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: sans-serif">I just got my boat out of storage this Saturday and now that I can look at the mast, I see that I currently have a different set up than what I have seen on most other boats.
</span></font> <br><font face="sans-serif" size="2"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: sans-serif">My mast is the original mast but I believe someone made a repair to the spreaders earlier.</span></font> <br><font face="sans-serif" size="2">
<span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: sans-serif">I currently have a single plate that wraps around the front of the mast in stead of the two separate plates in the repair kit.</span></font> <br><font face="sans-serif" size="2">
