Hi Hans,
Team Racing here at WYC is new. I have copied the Sonar Fleet as a
number of them went to Texas to match race in Sonars. They got
turned on to it and would like to do more. They have expressed
interest in Team Racing opportunities in Sheboygan and accept your
invitation to work out a date to send the WYC Match Racing Team to
Sheboygan. Suggest you look at your schedule and see if there are
openings for the WYC Team to come over. The WYC person you
talked to last fall was "Tom Brown"
<Tbrown9163@comcast.net>.

I think you could "Reply All" to try to come up with a
date.

I'm thinking of disabled Match Racing. I'm naive when it
comes to disabled sailing, but I am eager to get involved. We're
designing our new sailing facility to be very Disabled Friendly.
Jon Ruf has peaked at our plans, added an extra handrail to our ramp, but
otherwise given us the thumbs up.

I appreciate your willingness to talk up Sheboygan Match/Team Racing
around your club. We've been experiencing great growth in our Match
Racing center here. I hope someone from Wayzata tries to qualify
for the USMRC(formerly known as POW). Area K's field is stronger
than ever. The Quarters(May 15 - 17), and Semis (June 26 - 28) are
in Sheboygan this summer. In 2010 the semis will be in
Detroit. Wayzata might consider hosting an Area K Quarters, or
semis some time in the near future. This will be the second year in
a row we've held the quarters, and semis so I suspect Area K sailors will
want a new venue in 2010.

We're very keen to add team racing to our program. I remember
talking to someone from Wayzata on the phone(I'm sorry but his name
escapes me, should have written it down) last fall about the possibility
of putting something together. We've got a well matched fleet of
boats and sails. You folks could make the trip in rented bus.
We'd be sure to put together some nice places to stay for you, and maybe
find some place to have a party.

Talk to you soon Bert,

Were you thinking of Disabled Match racing or Able-body Body Match
Racing? Betsy Alison has been my coach on the US Sailing Disabled
Sailing Team for 2 years. She loves match racing, but coaches fleet
racing. I assume that if you were talking about Able-body sailing
your Sonars would be used. If it was disabled match racing I would
probably have to bring my Paralympic Team Captain Hook Sonars which is
equipped with bench and rail for wheelchair sailors. I think the
Disabled thing would be difficult to pull off as my disabled crew are in
Baltimore and Sacramento. I personally haven't match raced since
sailing a Sonar in St. Pete in the finals of the POW in 1990.

Match Racing
However, there is a strong group of match racers here at the WYC
who would love to come over and match race. I will start the ball
rolling now.

Team Racing
In addition there is a group in our Sonar Fleet #5 who have
travelled to Texas to team race and got turned on to it. Is there a
chance to have a second event for team racing in Sheboygan?

Star of the North Regatta & Sonar North American Championship
Regatta in September 2010
Could they be put on their trailers and brought over here for
these events in September or are they limited to your match racing
programs?

Would you be interested in sailing a Match Race here in Sheboygan
sometime in 09? I've touched base with Jon Ruff, and Betsy Allison
about the possibility, and they seem stoked.

I received your email address from Tom Brown.

I'm chairman of the Race Committee of the Wayzata Yacht Club and a 23
year Sonar sailor. I'm on the United States Disabled Sailing Team
and own Sonar # 24 and # 757. I understand your club has 8 Sonars
and does a lot of match racing.

We invite you to a wonderful regatta, Star of the North, September
18-19-20, 2009. This is a one design fleet regatta for Sonars,
Capri-25s, and S2 7.9s. Principal behind this regatta is lots of
racing, good food, live band, and most of all great fun. There are
4 buoy races Friday, a distance race (well as much as we can get on Lake
Minnetonka, maybe 25 miles) Saturday morning, and 2 buoy races Saturday
afternoon, and 2 buoy races Sunday morning. WYC Fleet # 5 now up to
20 Sonars. We are hoping for a fleet of 25 to 30 boats foe the Star
of the North regatta.

I'm sending you this invitation early in hopes that the dates can be made
to fit into your schedule and that a number of you will come. The
WYC has a 10 ton jib crane put you boats in. There may be a couple
of Sonars that can be borrowed. We will house all your people in our
homes.
