Good Job. Lets have a psychologist check this out to see what was
it that triggered the change in Bri and see if we can pass it along to
others. I always love to see enthusiasm for sailing. Your
reward for doing such a good job is that we will scholarship Bri to all 6
of the May seminars. Sorry, but if you choose to attend, you will
have to pay the membership discounted rate.
My daughter Bri Dickel was regular crew with the Sonar fleet this season
as our 4th (so she was out a lot) on batmobile. She also did the
Sonar team racing and was available for SOTN. She is 15 with many
choices available to her activity-wise. She started sailing this
spring and liked it so much (the sailing, the people, the fleet, etc),
she bailed on soccer (something she had done since she was 7... So
that is telling!). She is planning to return next season and
hopefully will get a chance to steer (we tried to setup this season but
schedules conflicted).

Nate Olmsted, 9, was also on board a good number of races as well.
I am sure his earlier Sonar exposure has helped him become a very good
Opti sailor this season, which in turn has contributed back.

Cheers!
special recognitions, I would like to also suggest special
recognition of the under 18 that participate or skipper within the Sonar
fleet.

I still have extra medals from the LOWISA youth regatta which we've given
out before but I'd also or alternatively like to suggest that we create a
page link from the Sonar site that features the names, photos and a
one line sailing bio. (I can design and put that
together). I can name the link "Outstanding Sonar
Fleet #5 Youth". I think we'd be the only fleet
that would have this.

We have a number of kids who actively crew, sometimes in
pretty tough conditions (I'm thinking of Alan's boys in the SOTN
Friday and Team Racing regatta) where they could just as easily be on
shore with their friends at the mall. I think this is
worth some recognition.
