Dear WYC Sailor,

It has been a challenge to keep everyone properly updated regarding the Rosekrans property acquisition by the Wayzata Sailing Foundation (WSF) because it's been a complicated, changing and fast moving process. Here is a quick update on the proposed Wayzata Community Sailing Center.

WHAT'S NEEDED?
As of this morning the WSF is currently within $50,000 of a multi-million dollar fundraising campaign for property acquisition. Past Commodore Denny Sanford started us with a cool million, but we need additional support to get to the finish line. Now sailing school parent Gary Holmes has offered to match additional donations to help us get to the finish. So with your donations being doubled, this week is the time to step up and make a commitment.
a.. This is a donation for real property that will be an appreciating asset to our community for decades to come.
b.. This is a tax deductible 501-(c)3 charitable donation.
c.. This is a donation that's literally in your backyard for something you are passionate about. It will directly benefit youth camp and race sailing programs, underprivileged youth programs, handicapped sailing programs, and numerous non-sailing community programs.
d.. After the WSF has acquired the property, there will remain approximately $500,000 in financing to be paid off by the WSF over the next three years, largely through donations. We encourage you to consider a three year giving plan that includes a 2007 acquisition donation and follow-up pledges 2008 and 2009.
We will again meet this Thursday night after racing to answer questions and receive donations and three year pledges. Please speak with your significant other, download a donation form, and on Thursday night make a donation you will be proud of for years to come.

The opportunity to be someone who "helped make it happen" won't last forever.

WHAT IS IT?
The greatest potential in our sailing community is with youth programs, however, WYC has no room to expand and little ability to further stretch our club mission for youth and community programs. A dedicated Wayzata Community Sailing Center (W.C.S.C.), with it's own property and home, will have the ability to truly fulfill the community and youth based programs that WYC can not physically accommodate.

Programs at the Wayzata Community Sailing Center will include the Wayzata Sailing School operations as it's core. Beyond that, the WCSC will be able to improve programs for underprivileged youth, handicapped sailors, youth racing, and offer a community meeting space and home base for a variety of community programs that may or may not be sailing related.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR WYC?
A fair question. Parking spots to reduce neighborhood congestion, space to host regattas, more available clubhouse space, less clubhouse traffic during weekdays, a cooperative and synergistic organization next door, lots of energetic crew looking for rides on keelboats who will mature into future keelboat racers. Having the Wayzata Sailing Foundation own and run the property pumps (literally) millions of dollars in donations into our sailing community and brings far more energy to our community than we could ever create by simply expanding WYC ownership west. A separate WSF owned neighbor allows the WSF to focus on charitable and community programs and allows WYC to focus on adult keelboat racing. Everybody wins.
