The WYC E-Blaster Weathermark at wyc.org - August 20, 2009

BURTON CUP / MS CUP / CORN ROAST
Saturday 8-29 (also a rescheduled date)
All that buoy racing we've been doing all summer has only been practice for the big race of the season. The BURTON CUP is August 29th, be there or be a total LOSER.

The MS CUP is a new part of the Burton, it's a fundraiser for Blake Middleton's Team Sail fundraising efforts. You don't need to register or anything, just visit http://www.mscup.org/ and make a donation. Blake shares the love with the club that gives the most, so step up or everyone's going to be racing T 1-1/3rds all summer. But seriously, if you support Blake and his efforts on behalf of local sailing and MS, then visit http://www.mscup.org/ and make a donation.

CORN ROAST
Yes, I know it's tough for WYC people to summon up the energy to wash up and return to the lake for dinner on MYC island, but this year it's way worth the effort. The MS Cup is sponsoring singer Tim Mahoney from 6-7pm, there will be a live auction featuring Terry Foster, new Burton/MS trophies will be awarded for each fleet, and awards for top fundraisers, and of course the corn is legendary. Dinner is $18 (reservations to carol at minnetonkayachtclub.org before Tuesday) or $22 at the door.

Notice: If the wind is blowing out of the north or west, please watch out for racing scows starting before WYC as you motor to the start at Lighthouse Island.

RECAP: Donate at http://www.mscup.org/ now, race Saturday morning 10:00am, corn roast/Tim Mahoney/auction/awards/corn at 6:00pm on the island.

CHAMPIONSHIP of CHAMPIONS
Wednesday 26th at 6:00pm is the Annual Championship of Champions for Lake Minnetonka. Is sort of like the IROC series, the All Star game, the Pro Bowl, and Superstars rolled up into an evening sail on Minnetonka and dinner at Lighthouse Island.

It works like this: Representatives from each major fleet at WYC and MYC are chosen to represent their respective clubs for a race at Lighthouse Island (MYC) in Club 420's. For some it's a big deal to win, for others it's an honor to represent, for the spectators its a hoot to watch.

Racing starts at 6:00pm with multiple races on a short course. Spectator boats are encouraged. Dinner on the island starts around 7:30, costs about $10 and the quality is just past the otherside of sublime (seriously, it's a real meal, $10 is a deal). This event counts as triple date points, so bring the spouse and friends.

(note: this event was reschedule from 8-19 to 8-26, so no, you didn't miss it)

LOW WATER
As of this morning, we are up about .4.5 inches from our water low level of August 6th. So good work everyone on doing whatever you've been doing to make the rain happen, but please go easy on the tornados. Notice to mariners: Watch out for the "power-on" sand mound behind the powerboat ramp.

TRANS SUPERIOR
Congratulations to Chewbacca on a victory in PHRF A, winning by a stunning 7 hours and 45 minutes over the second place boat. Am I reading that right? Wow! Go easy on them next time, guys.

Special congratulations to anyone to competed in burgeoning solo and 2x handed class' in the Trans, including AIS boat Mike Spence. Now if they'll just change the rules to let 22' boats race...

Hey, it's going to rain tonight. Get over it and get out there. Reward: No powerboat wakes, except from the guy shooting trophy photos tonight.
