LEECH LAKE REGATTA is AUGUST 11-13, 2012

The annual Leech Lake Regatta (LLR41) in Walker, Minnesota  on the
south shore of beautiful Leech lake, will be August 11-13, 2012. Boats
race in two fleets; mono-hulls and multi-hulls.  Within each fleet are
divisions, and when possible single hull type divisions are created.
A crane is available to lift boats.

This regatta has been attended by many WYC boats over the years and we
currently are the club that holds the trophy from last year’s event as
‘Best Finishes’ for a yacht club.  We need to defend that!

Leech lake is a sandy weed free warm and clean lake that is the 3rd
largest inland lake in MN.  The lake is approx.. 3 ½ hr drive north
from Mpls. and is in great shape at a record water level this year.
The regatta is hosted by the area’s premier sailing marina called
Shores of Leech Lake Marina and Campground.

If you register by August 4th the fee is $75.  After August 4th the
fee is $100.  The regatta fee includes administration of the three day
race , two tickets to the dinner and  Awards Banquet, and tons of door
prizes.

Camping and trailer parking and cabins are available at the marina and
several motels are available in Walker.  Typical size of the regatta
is around 50 boats with point to point racing returning to the marina
every day.  The regatta is well suited for families as well as
competitive sailors.

This year several WYC boats are already are registered but the more
boats the merrier.

CREW MEMBERSHIP REMINDER

Crew membership is roughly 2/3 what it was last year, yet it looks
like the same number of racers at WYC.

As a reminder, Article 4D in WYC Bylaws states that 'A Crew Membership
is required by any individual who becomes regular crew on a yacht or
who has participated in more than five races in a season.'

Crew Members: If you haven't paid your crew membership dues, please
send them in now. Your $95 helps pay for race committee, equipment,
building, grounds and social events. A crew membership form is
available at http://www.wyc.org/Portals/0/forms-docs/MembershipForm.pdf,
or talk to Steve Bren at the club.

Boat Owners: Please check the 2012 log to make sure all crew who have
sailed more than 5 races are WYC crew members.
