</p><div style="margin-left:40px">A potluck and a DVD video of Captain Roger B. Swanson’s 2nd sail to Antarctica in 1992 will be the program at Wayzata Yacht Club. Roger, who received the Blue Water Medal from the Cruising Club of America, the Royal Cruising Club’s Tilman medal, Ocean Cruising Club’s Barton Cup and the Seven Seas Award from the Seven Seas Cruising Association, was successful sailing Cloud Nine across the Antarctic Circle. Because of the gales, sleet, snow, ice bergs, and a failed heater below deck this passage was a far more dangerous and difficult challenge than his 1st sail across the Drake Passage to Antarctica in 1988.<br>
<br>Please bring some food to share at this potluck social. Listen to the crew and what Roger narrates on the video, and see the albatross, seals, dolphins, petrels and penguins. Gordon Manning, who has crewed for Roger across the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, will show the video. Roger cannot promise to attend this potluck.</div>

Charting distilled to two hours. This will be a very high-level introduction
with lots of pictures, minimal mathematics. Understand how spherical
trigonometry works then step outside, weather permitting, and “shoot” Aldebaran
(Taurus), Sirius (Canus Major), and Pollux (Gemini). Early arrivals might
get a shot of Venus before it sets.</p><div style="margin-left:40px">

Ephemeris (like the Nautical Almanac), Chronometer, and some Sight-Reduction
