Beth,

So far my wife and I have truly enjoyed the club and have joined on as
crew members. While we have been able to find a boat for Saturday races,
we unfortunately did not get picked by a boat the last Thursday we
visited the crew table (Note: This might be a result of us getting there
shortly after 5:00). We are going to try again tomorrow, but I was
curious if you new of any boats looking for two people on Thursday night
races. We would prefer to stay together if at all possible - I would
describe myself as a lower end intermediate and by wife is definitely a
beginner.

If not we will try our luck again at the crew table and hopefully this
time find a boat.

Thanks again for all of your guidance in getting oriented with the club.

Daniel

Daniel:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding sailing at WYC. The on-the-water
seminars are an excellent way to get involved, meet other sailors, and
find a ride for the year. Each seminar is a stand-alone class, and so it
is just fine to attend one or two of the three.

I also recommend showing up on race days, and sitting at the "Crew
Looking for a Ride" table. It is right on the front patio in front of
the glass doors. Ask anyone and they can point you in the right
direction. This time of year when many boat owners are still building
their crew and the winds are a little heavier, it is very easy to find a
ride. Chances are pretty good that you and your wife will be able to
sail together, especially if you show up early. Just check the schedule
at this link http://www.wyc.org/Schedule.htm, and show up 1-2 hours
before the race. If you have specific dates you would like to sail,
please feel free to contact me ahead of time, and I can help you find a
ride beforehand. I sail in the Capri fleet, and there are usually lots
of people looking for crew.

If you have any other questions or would like any additional
information, please feel free to contact me.

Beth,

My wife and I are both interested in joining the WYC this year. I have
several years of sailing experience (mostly on J105's) but have been off
the water for 4 years now and need some refreshers. My wife is a novice
to the sport, but is very interested in learning the fundamentals of
racing.

I would appreciate your guidance on how best to get involved with the
club. I am assuming that a combination of the spring seminar and the on
the water training would be the best for both of us. Unfortunately we
cannot make this weekend's on the water training. Is it feasible to
attend one or two of the remaining sessions and still meet the course
requirements? In addition, we are currently without a boat and would be
looking to volunteer crew during the week day season of races. Is there
a regular need for volunteer crew and if so, is it likely we could crew
the same nights or even on the same boat?

We have heard very positive reviews of the club and would greatly
appreciate any guidance you can provide on how best to get involved.

Thank you,

Daniel Marple
