[Capri25] G-Series #6 Canceled

Minnesota summers always have turbulent weather, and all storms leave behind
many stories. The reality is that it didn't affect the two hundred people
who stood around drinking beer at the Wayzata Yacht Club last night.

This request has nothing to do with safety decisions, but instead dealing
with the sailing instructions regarding race cancellation. The RC has no
unique knowledge of the weather. Most of the member boats spend their
Thursday afternoon watching the many weather stations, radars, forecasts,
and projections. I believe most sailors are as informed about the weather
situation as the RC. It is the responsibility of every individual to make
the right decision about their whereabouts regarding the weather. Anyone
concerned about their safety should stay home. There is no debate about any
decision to stay ashore until the storm passes.

I respectfully request that the PRO refrain from announcing a
race cancellation prior to the officially allowed time. This practice
results in people (who would have otherwise raced) leaving the club area
early, and prevents the opportunity for a PRO change-of-mind if the
situation changes. As I observed last night, it also creates unnecessary
opportunities for protest. I request that the PRO consider postponement on
the water or ashore until it is absolutely clear that the weather will not
improve.

I realize that the PRO position in our club is an extremely difficult
position and comes with many difficult decisions. This message should be
considered constructive feedback.

Thanks,
OT
