[J22-Fleet 1] Update from Class Association

There was a J/22 Class Association meeting today. Here are a few highlights
that may be important to you.

 

J/22 MIDWINTERS

1318 (Kurt, Boat Name: Turn Down for What) from WYC is already registered
for Midwinters. Team 810 (Dyer, Boat Name: TBA) will be registering shortly.
If any of the rest of you plan to go, get your registration in. You can
register online
https://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/applet_registration_form.php?regatta
_id=11404. The regatta is March 18 - 20 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida-just
under 1,400 miles away. Just checked this morning. 

 

2017 J/22 NAs

Will be held at Buffalo Yacht Club. The dates are to be announced, possibly
September. But there is an initiative to try and get big events schedule
from June - August to encourage younger sailor participation. 

 

By the way, that was the only proposal entered. Food for thought if we want
to put a bid in for 2018 NAs.

 

J/22 Youth Scholarship / Free J/22 for the 2016 Season!

Attached is information on a youth scholarship program. The winning team
gets a free J/22 to use for the 2016 season. It would be great to see a team
from Minnesota get the first year of this. Get the word out. 

 

College/Youth J/22 Sailor Features

The J/22 Class Association will be featuring youth J/22 sailors in the
association newsletter, on their website and in social media. If anyone has
sailed with a college/youth sailor on a J/22 that would be interested in
being featured, let me know. I have a few in mind already. We'll want a
photograph of the sailor along with answers to a few questions (that I
haven't written yet). If there's any interest in being featured, please let
me know. This includes college, high-school and younger sailors that have
raced on a J/22 in our district. 

 

Let me know if anyone has questions or wants to be our first featured young
sailor.
