Hello my dear friends,

I want to thank everyone for the condolences, love, Facebook comments, support, and assistance with so many things.  I wish I could be at the club tonight to feel surrounded by your hugs and by the many tributes I know will be sent heavenward to Bert tonight at the yacht club.  The special solo start for Sonar #22, the original Sesame Street, to honor Bert sounds just like something he would have wanted.

My doctor has advised me against any contact with large crowds as the chemotherapy has greatly compromised my immune system.  Therefore, I can only greet you from afar, accepting virtual hugs at any time.

I am very needy for the next few weeks.  I go to the Fairview Southdale Cancer Center almost every day, for which I need transportation, staying anywhere from one to six hours.  I am not supposed to be alone at night, in case someone needs to dial 911, so I am recruiting friends who can spend a night or two on my sofa at the condo.  The schedule is constantly changing.  Check the Caring Bridge web site to sign up for various tasks.

I owe a special debt of gratitude to Terry, Andy and Will Foster, whose devotion to Bert during these last few weeks has been unselfish and unwavering.  He was a good father, a devoted husband, and he has left a huge hole in my heart, as well as in the hearts of so many people who knew him.  You are probably one of those people.

The yacht club was his dream and his vision.  Keep it alive.  Support the Sailing Center, because that's what Bert wanted us all do.  He always said, "Those kids are the future of our sport, the future of the Wayzata Yacht Club."  Amen.
