J/22 Fleet #1:

Here's an update from the J/22 Class Association meeting yesterday.

Masts

There is one left from the original five purchased by the class. That mast
is likely to be sold this month to someone. They are talking about
purchasing more masts to have on hand.

Championship Update

* 2020 Midwinter Championship, Southern Yacht Club, New
Orleans, LA, March 19-22: Boo reported that Morgan Stanley is the title
sponsor, among others who have come on board. The new harbor will be ready
with floating docks. The Notice of Race is almost complete, and everything
will be live at www.j22mw.com soon.

* 2020 World Championship, Point Yacht Club, Durban, South
Africa, June 28-July 3

* 2020 North American Championship, CORK, Kingston Canada,
August 6-9

* 2021 Midwinter Championship: Houston, details to be
confirmed

* 2021 World Championship, Corpus Christi Yacht Club,
Corpus Christi, TX, July 18-24: Chris shared that the Jury is secured, and
full planning is underway.

* There was a proposal for the 2022 North American
Championship that was reviewed. This was accepted. However, we're waiting
for final approval from the yacht club before it is announced.

Technical Report

Chris recapped that a small working group, led by Chris Doyle and Ron
Harris, is re-writing the Class Rules into the required World Sailing
format. The first draft is expected this month or next. The Technical
Committee and other volunteers will review the draft before presentation to
NJCAs for voting (as laid out in the Constitution). As there is a huge
amount of formatting in this rewrite process, it is quite time-consuming.
The Sails section will be made in line with the Equipment Rules of Sailing.
The Velocitek was shut down by some members and is not expected to be
permitted in the Rules. There may be a few items that will require a
specific vote, but the rest of the re-written Rules can be voted as a whole.

This FAQ addresses an issue from the 2019 World Championship, which will be
made more clear in our new Rules: Is it allowed to have a J/22 mast base
plate with holes that are larger than the pins that were delivered with the
boat originally or to have a slot instead of holes where the mast base plate
pins are inserted? No. The mast plate must have circular holes for the mast
base plate pins, and the holes must be no larger than the pin circumference,
so that the pins just fit into the mast base plate. There should be no
possibility of the mast moving up and down on the mast base plate once
properly attached.

Election of Officers

Mark Stuhlmiller, Nominating Chair, prepared the following slate of
Officers:

President: Boo Heausler

1st Vice President: Jennifer Princing

2nd Vice President: Jeff Todd

Secretary/Treasurer: Holly Jo Anderson

Chief Measurer/US Technical Chair: Terry Flynn

Matt Dunbar made a motion to accept this slate as presented, seconded by
Drew Mutch. The motion passed unanimously. Boo said he's been in the Class
for many years, and enjoys racing in his area and traveling to our
Championships. He enjoys the camaraderie in our Class. Chris and Julie
thanked Matt for stepping up with the mast process and leading our Class for
two years.

If any of you are interested in becoming district 4 governor (out district),
please let me know. I'm told there is not an issue with me doing both
secretary and district governess. But if someone wants to take over the roll
of district governor/governess, please let me know. It would be great to
have another person from our district involved at the Class level. It's a
pretty simple volunteer position - only 4 phone conferences a year. Call or
email me 952-994-4455
