Looks like St. Pete is out for the midwinters this year and also its a
month earlier than usual. I'd like to see who is interested in going.
Fortunately, I know the waters of Key Biscayne lots better than St.
Pete Bay (never sailed there). For those of you who have sailed the
Keys, you know that this is essentially thin water sailing if we stay in
Key Biscayne Bay (which is the side that the YC is on). You can see
the bottom most of the time when you're sailing, especially when the tide
is low (about a 2 ft tide range). Fortunately the bottom is really
flat. The Gulf Stream isn't in the bay, it starts strongly about a
mile offshore.
I'm checking on a Sonar charter for Key Biscayne. Didn't know they had
Sonars there. Lots of Melges 24s but no Sonars that I remember.
If I go to this, I'd likely charter a boat afterwards for 4 days and
sail to the Bahamas which is a bumpy but quick trip across the Gulf
Stream. The Bahamas are nice once you get there though. If others want
to see the Bahamas from the Sonar fleet, we can charter a bigger boat.
