That sounds like a great idea to me...  Perhaps we should run it by Dutch first.  It may be attractive to New Belgium due to the recent reintroduction to the MN market.

I noticed that New Belgium brewery over in Ft Collins (makers of the very tasty Fat Tire beer), has an event sponsorship program. Typically they are looking for environmentally friendly events and for the most part they have been sponsoring bicycle races. So I was thinking sailing makes a lot of sense.

I think this is a win/win scenario since both sides would receive publicity for the event. Perhaps we could even convince them to make a “sailing” beer J

Attached below is a snippet from their sponsorship program description found at http://www.newbelgium.com/uar.php

Thoughts?

New Belgium's Sponsorship Program

So, you’re doing something good and you want us to join you? Excellent! Tell us about it.

We at New Belgium love to get involved. We sponsor a whole bevy of cool events and goings on throughout the western United States. And while we would like to align with all that is good and worthy, we sometimes have to gracefully decline.

A few things we look for when selecting events and sponsorship opportunities.

TIMING: Yep, it takes time to get the beer there. So, start talking to us at least two months to a year prior to your event. For large events, we generally need even more time.

BRANDING: It’s important that your event allows us to showcase what New Belgium is all about. We look for PLAYFUL, UNIQUE, and DELIGHTFUL events. We’re a folly following bunch, and we like to support fellow folly followers.

SUSTAINABILITY: From brewing beer to building events, we want to do all we can to reduce our footprint. That’s why we partner with likeminded organizations. In addition, we’re very interested in events that support environmental non-profits.

We are members of 1% For the Planet and hope to drive positive environmental change through our sponsorships. You’ll score brownie points by involving non-profits that are doing the same. Check out their website for more information! www.onepercentfortheplanet.org

PARTICIPATION: We prefer to be hands-on and on-premise with events. So, if you’re pitching a logo placement, we’ll generally pass unless it comes with a chance to meet and greet.

LOCATION: As much as we’d love to go to New York or Florida, for now, we have to wait. We’ll gladly consider events in the states we’re located. (CO, WY, TX, AZ, NM, AR, MO, KS, CA, NV, ID, WA, OR, MN, IA, MT, IL, NE)

DONATIONS: Our sponsorship dollars have to reflect our brand. So, if you’re wanting a good will donation or philanthropic grant please check back around March 15, 2008 when our guidelines and Online System are updated.

TEAMS/INDIVIDUAL ATHLETES: Due to the overwhelming amount of requests we get to sponsor athletic teams and individuals, we decided it’s just too hard to pick. So, aside from a few family and friend’s teams, we pass on these types of sponsorships.

BANDS: Ditto on the above.

If your event fits these guidelines, then click here and fill out the following form. We’ll take a look at your request, and get back to you within a week.

The Winnipeg Canadians have already been invited and are sounding positive to attending.

Ernie is tasked with getting with Rick Doerr of the Sonar Class Association to make sure our proposed regatta names don't run afoul with any class interests  (since this will more than likely not be a class sanctioned event).   It may be that we cannot include the name Sonar in it.

Once we get a name however and we've cleared up the schedule error,   the dates and regatta name will also go into Sonar.org.   The Galveston,  KC and other fleets will be notified also.

Those of you who are considering chartering/lending your boat out:  now is a good time to see if there are any insurance issues.

A lot of the infrastructure with the dinner,  raffle,  silent auction, sponsors is already done for us courtesy of the Capri organization.   I'm communicating with Dutch Bull to make sure that schedules/costs are known and manageable for us.

However,   I would like to see if someone in the fleet would like to propose and order, organize the trophies.   Any takers?

I like Star of the North!  For a logo, imagine a big blue star on top of the Sonar class red and white stripes  -  like a modified WYC burge.

The "Frostbite Falls International Sonar Regatta"

We can claim International status because the Canadians are already expressing interest in coming down for it.

The logo would obviously include some depiction of Rocky and Bullwinkle silhouetted against a Sonar sail plan etc.

Any other ideas?
