Hello Sonar Fleet 5,

This last Wednesday we had a meeting of all the Fleet captains at the club.  Here are just a few things I thought I should share with you all:

A few fleet captain duties:  getting any scoring mistakes corrected
                                       liaison in inter-fleet disputes
                                      liaison to race management
liaison to club management and officers

Club policy notes:

1a)  There is a PUD in the works with the city (I forget what PUD stands for but I think its about how the land is zoned)  If I understand correctly, getting the PUD will enhance the value of the club property.  This value is particularly important regarding the East parking area since some of that property will eventually be taken by the state when the intersection of 101 and McGinty is redone.  To get the PUD through, the club needs to be a "good neighbor".  To be a good neighbor, NO PARKING IN THE ADJACENT NEIGHBORHOODS.  If lots are full, use public lots in the business area.  Please relay this to all your crew.  Also, quiet after 10:00 pm.

1b)  No WYC parking at the Sailing Center.  Their permit doesn't allow it.

2)  The race committee boats have room for 3 guests each race.  If anyone is interested, ideally they would let Blake know ahead of time, but can also ask last minute.  If you happen to overbook your crew, this might be an option to get that extra person out on the lake.  I hear that people find that experience interesting and educational.

3)  Crew must join (get a crew membership) after 3-6 visits or regular ride.

4)  Commercial lake traffic has right of way.  This is important when we're heading out for Thursday night racing at about the time a number of charter boats are rushing to Wayzata for a 6:00 pick-up.

5) If you get scored "not in database" at the beginning of the season, it's because dues weren't paid.  A non-paid boat could also have trouble getting paid for damage should there be a collision since they also have no rights to protest since they have no right to race.

There was more, of course, but I don't think I need to write about all the details.  Call me or write to me if you have questions or concerns.

Marty Fossen
