Subject: FW: Volunteer to be a donor ... possibly for Eric

Below is an e-mail that my sister, Karen, put together for her son Eric who has been fighting this terrible cancer, what was Stage II now turned into Stage IV Lymphoma, since last December.  I’m reaching out to all of you if you feel inclined to act.  The testing on September 23rd will be fully paid for by Eric’s employer, Fallon.

We’d also love any thoughts and prayers going his way.  He is a very brave soul and fighting hard.

Thanks for any support you can give (and have given)!

Please join us as we try to find a match for Eric who is courageously fighting Stage IV Lymphoma.  Eric will need a bone marrow or stem cell transplant as part of his treatment over the next few months and while there's a chance Eric will be able to have his own stem cells harvested and then transplanted back,  if his stem cells are not viable, he will need a donor.  Unfortunately Zach and Leah are not a match so he will have to rely on the National Marrow Registry to find a match. You'll have to look at the donor restrictions -- e.g. people over the age of 61, have had cancer cannot donate.

In order to be considered as a match for Eric you must join the National Marrow Registry.  Joining is as easy as filling out a registration form (10 minutes) and getting the inside of your cheek swabbed (10 seconds).  No needles, no blood - just a swab.

Whether you're a match for Eric, or one of the thousands of other needy patients who rely on the National Registry each year, by signing up you truly can save a life.

There are two ways to register: in-person at a registration drive or online, where a kit will be sent to you.  Several drives are being planned in Minnesota in Eric's honor; you can follow this link to check out the details and locations:
http://www.ericgilseth.com/register-in-person.html

Sep. 13, 1-5 pm @ Boston Scientific in Arden Hills (donations made to Be-the-match)
Sep. 17, 1-5 pm @ Boston Scientific in Maple Grove (donations made to Be-the-match)
Sep. 23, 4-7 pm @ Rosa Mexicano (this is a friends and family event with a silent auction too, Eric's friends are setting up Skype on a large screen so Eric can be there via Skype, Fallon is donating the $ for people to register to be a donor). More details on this.

You can also click this link to find a drive local to your city: http://marrow.org/Join/Join_in_Person/Join_in_Person.aspx#join

If you would prefer to register online, please click this link (http://join.marrow.org/ericg), which is tagged so that we can track the number of registrants in honor of Eric.  Your information will
be confidential - this simply allows us to tell Eric how many people registered in his honor.

More information on what it means to join the National Marrow Registry can be found here:

Thank you for joining us in supporting Eric and those like him, bravely battling this disease!
