Here's what we had in mind. It will be a 'passive' WE in that it will
just go along with the party.

Bring a 'gift' wrapped up and put it on the table that will be there just
as you enter the Luke home. Drop your gift off and pick up another
wrapped gift and proceed to the party. DON"T unwrap your gift at this time!

For some time during the party (while people are still getting together),
people can 'steal' from others as much as they want. (remember they are
still wrapped)

When everyone is together and the party is moving along, Bert will
announce that everyone can open their gift.

After that, everyone can 'steal' again but only two times (someone can only
be stolen from twice. This allows for one stealback). Once you've been
stolen from twice, you're either stuck or lucky!

Ideas about gifts:

Keep it silly, cheap, small (can be carried around fairly
easily),preferably androgynous and sailing related (e.g. your old sailing
gloves about to be retired)

Wrap it like it's the Hope diamond with the best paper you have left over
from last year. If just wrapping it will give it away what it is, put it
in a box and wrap it or use your imagination and 'ruse' package it.
Initial concealment is part of the fun.

If you're coming as a couple, you can bring one gift, but remember to only
pick up as many as you drop off. Also remember that the more gifts the
merrier! Take another look around your house or garage!

We did this with a large group when I was a kid with the officers of the
aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk....large group and it worked very well and was
a blast even for the kids.
