Hey all,

One of the things on the agenda are the Special Class Rules for Fleet 5. The current ones are mostly about scoring. See the attachment for the exact text, I'll have copies for Monday.

There are few actual racing and equipment related things that are in the class rules that we should add to the fleet rules. I didn't go over EVERY possible thing we let slide (eg. do you have your Sonar Class Association sticker on your boat? Are you even an SCA member?), but there are a couple that should be codified.

I've attached the Class Rules, available from here: http://www.sonar.org/site/files/Library/Class_documents/Class%20Rules%20v1.12.pdf
The WYC NOR is attached, available here: http://www.wyc.org/Portals/0/forms-docs/Racing-NOR.pdf

The 2 easy ones that I propose:
Regarding sail numbers, a boat must follow NOR 14. This may replace SCR A.11.2
A boat shall sail with a minimum of 2 persons, or 1 person for the Lonar. This overrides SCR C.2.1(a), which requires 3 (note there is no "max number of crew" in the class rules)

The one "difficult" rule issue that bears some discussion is what electronic gear is allowed:
Here's what's in the class rules,
3.1.(b) Optional
                                (i) Electronic or mechanical timing devices.
                                (ii) Analog or digital compasses.
(iii) Except at sanctioned events, electronic navigational device without chart capability.

Questions pop up about Velocitek's that give you a knot meter. There are watches/hardware/phone apps that give you the start line based on GPS position. We should decide what's allowed...

See you all Monday!

Ken
Secretary
WYC Sonar Fleet 5

TL;DR version : look at old rules; use whatever sail numbers just tell the race committee; no sailing single except Lonar; what about those new fangled electronics???
