Subject: [Sonar] Point of Discussion: Sanctioning the Star of the North

Hey everyone!

The Sonar Class Association would like us to apply for sanctioning for the
Star of the North. It was decided at the meeting to put this out to the
whole fleet to discuss.

Some things that came up at the meeting:

What does this get us?

Exposure, and the chance to get more big Sonar events at WYC.

A reason for other boats from other yacht clubs to come here and see what a
fabulous yacht club WYC is.

Will raise the level of competition at WYC.

What other requirements are there?

1. We (owners) would be bound by the various rules and regulations

a. Person in Charge must be a Sonar Class Association Member ($50) A
good idea anyway. We should be supporting the class and US Sailing. Let's
not be cheap.

b. Boat must have a valid measurement certificate We did weights and
mast measurements for 2011 NAs on all boats at the time. I will check to see
what else would be required for our older boats. I believe that keels are
grandfathered but they may want measurements. If we move ahead, we should
set July 31 as a date when we all have certificates.

2. The regatta must follow certain rules

a. Low scoring System scoring system handles this

b. Minimum 3 races simple requirement. Hope for good weather.

c. Minimum of 6 races before a throw-out is awarded scoring system can
handle this

d. SCA has to approve SI/NOR/PRO SIs and NOR should not be a problem.
What do we have to do to have our PRO approved?

We'll give this a couple of weeks or so, and call a vote when it seems we've
got it all talked out.
