Dear Ken,
I'm a member of Oriental Dinghy Club in Oriental, NC ...Oriental is known as 'the Sailing Capital of NC'. I am also the very happy owner of a Sonar, which I purchased used in May of this year. I got your name and email address from the Sonar Class Assn website and I hope you don't mind my sending you this.
This email is not being sent in conjunction with our club. In Oriental (a village of around 900 people), we have a couple of sailing schools. One has been growing rapidly and owns fleets of FJ's, 420's along with some larger charter boats. The owner is a good friend of mine and friend of our club.
He's considering adding 3 to 6 Sonars to his fleet. He'd be interested in any used Sonars you have in the $4-6K price range. He hopes to use them for the start of a community sailing program along with sailing lessons focused on racing keelboats. So, if you have a few older boats and are looking for an excuse to replace them, this might be a good opportunity.
Just to be upfront, he's also looking at J/24s...he'll either go with J/24s or Sonars, depending on where he can get the best value.
If you have Sonars you'd like for him to consider...or know of someone else who does... please let me know and I'll get the information to him.
