STAR OF THE NORTH REGATTA
www.WYC.org/STAR
The big, newly redone, OD Regatta for boats that don't start with the letter
"J" begins in about 18 hours. Several boats are needing crew, so if you just
looked at the weather report to see the great forecast, give someone a call
to find a boat needing crew. There are several. Sonars:

TOO MUCH TO LIST FOR WCSC RACING, BUT WE'LL TRY ANYWISE
(from Cappy Capper)
1) We have a record number of paid team members attending practice for both
the University of Minnesota and the University of Saint Thomas.
2) Week one ended with the Saint Thomas Cup hosted be WCSC. The Gophers "A"
team took first, their freshman team finished 4th, Women's team 6th, and
team "B" was 7th. The Tommie's stood on the podium for the first time in
school history finishing 3rd.
3) Week two ended with a trip to Madison for the Fall Fury. Cappy Capper
was the traveling coach. 14 University's competed in the event, the Gophers
tied for 1st but lost the tie breaker and ended up 2nd. The Tommie's took
6th.
4) Week three ended with three college squads traveling to the Davis Cup in
Iowa where the Gophers finished 1st. Cappy Capper traveled with Hopkins and
two teams from Wayzata High Schools to Madison for the Great Oaks National
Invitational Midwest qualifiers. Hopkins High School qualified for
Nationals! Wayzata finished 4th and 5th. Coach Dave Elsmo traveled with a
Gopher and Tommie team to Detroit, Michigan for the ICSA Sloop qualifier,
while they did not qualify, they sailed hard. Team Wayzata had 30 sailors, 2
coaches in three states competing in regattas over the weekend.
5) On the calendar for this weekend; WCSC and the Gophers will be hosting
the Carin Streufert Memorial team race. The event will be run by Dave Elsmo
and coached by Ben Burgum. Cappy Capper will be on the road for the third
straight weekend with high school sailors competing in the Cressy
single-handed qualifiers hosted by the Pewaukee Yacht Club in Wisconsin.

MARC AND KIRSTEN SCHOLTES
Marc, a longtime J24 sailor on "Bubbles" who had recently moved to Bayfield
and Chippewa Falls WI, and his wife Kirsten lost their one year old daughter
in a tragic automobile accident on Wednesday. We plan to have a card at the
clubhouse computer kiosk this weekend that individuals can sign or include a
note with. John Pearson has volunteered to oversee this, so look for him.
Letters of sympathy can also be sent directly to Marc & Kirsten Scholtes,
13495 43rd, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729. Please keep your thoughts and prayers
with them.
