Email list servers are good for "push" communications where we need to make an announcement to everyone in a timely manner. 

Forums are good for "pull" communications where there's a discussion or archived information that people can look at when it suits them. 

We'll see how the forum goes, it's something new to try. Myself...I'm becoming more a fan of the club patio.
