WAYZATA YACHT CLUB - E-BLASTER - MAY 12th - 2009

COMMODORE'S COMMENTS
Wow, there is so much cool stuff going on at WYC that I simply can not fit it all into a brief package. But each paragraph in this e-mail represents huge effort on someone's part to make a new and cool event or meet an important need in our local sailing community. So please, take a moment to read and get involved.

THURSDAY NIGHT PARKING
My annual reminder about parking.
a) carpool or use alternate transit on Thursday nights.
b) avoid street parking in the neighborhoods. Just be a good neighbor.
c) Parking Attendants - We've added a few orange vests to help organize parking in the lots. Please cooperate and work to park compactly and organized.

THURSDAY TROLLEY FROM WAYZATA BAY CENTER NEW
Take the Trolley - The Wayzata Trolley will be running from 4:30 to 5:30 from the SE corner of the Wayzata Bay Shopping Center lot. Park there and take the trolley. No door dings, no walking along the busy road, no getting parked in. Best of all you can pick up a coffee, get your hair cut or pick up boat supplies at True Value before the race - more info at http://www.wayzatabaycenter.com/

BAYFIELD RACEWEEK
To attend RaceWeek is to love RaceWeek. it's the WYC summer retreat. Start out the week out with the ATI, breakfast at the EggToss, hanging out RumLine, the Bayfield Inn, Grunkies, Maggies, the Apostle Islands Marina Picnic Table, Long Island, the Pavilion, Pikes Bay, LaPointe 4th July Parade, the Reiten Boatyard beach, hike on Basswood, golf, the Big Top. Extra special this year will be RaceWeek sponsor Robert Cray Band at the Big Top on July 3rd.
This is an excellent regatta/summer vacation for small keelboats. So load up your boat and make plans to be in Bayfield this summer.

ACCESS SAILING
The Wayzata Community Sailing Center is developing an Access Sailing program for disabled sailors. The program is in its infancy and they need your help. An informational meeting is scheduled for 7 PM on Monday, May 18 at the Wayzata Yacht Club.

a.. If you are a disabled person who would like to learn to sail, please come to the meeting.
b.. If you know a disabled person who would like to learn to sail, please bring them to the meeting.
c.. If you would like to volunteer yourself and/or your boat to help disabled people learn to sail, please come to the meeting. In addition to the usual sailing and helping, there is a need for carpentry/woodworking/metalworking skills to help fabricate equipment.

If you have ideas, skills and want to help, contact Ernest Brody at access_sailing at earthlink.net and attend the May 18th Meeting at the WYC Clubhouse.

PAT MALONEY
One of our club's founding fathers, Pat Maloney has stepped down as President of the WCSC. Pat has dedicated himself to youth sailing over the past decade. In that time he has overseen our youth programs from operating as a satellite facility of the LMSS, to a certified non-profit organization, to the Wayzata Sailing Foundation operating on WYC property, and now to the free standing Wayzata Community Sailing Center on their own multi-million dollar center. Yes, the current building looks pretty rough right now, but the structure has been created for great things in the future from that facility.

I can not express how important Pat Maloney has been to the current and future of sailing and our youth in Wayzata. Pat will remain active with the WCSC and WYC Board, but please take a moment this summer to visit with Pat this summer and tell him how much you appreciate his dedication to our club...and ask him how you can help carry the torch.
